VAR

I hate that unnatural position rubbish, arms behind your back is the most unnatural position for your arms, your arms go into different positions naturally depending on what you are doing, arms behind the back means you aren't protecting your body from a projectile coming towards you. If they are going to keep on using VAR then they need to change rules regarding handball based on reaction time. For example a radius around a player of say 5 meters is drawn and if the ball is kicked towards them from within that radius it's not hand ball if it's outside it is hand ball, regardless of position of the hands, at least its a concreate rule then and not left to someone's opinion.

Yeah - players put their arms behind their backs precisely because penalties are given even when the arm is by the side. Should only be when arms in an unnatural position. (Ie above head). Or deliberate arm to ball obviously.

Should only be given if it’s either deliberate, or the arm is in an obviously unnatural position.
(Definitely not giving the one against Fulham)
If you don’t give that players are going to start smothering shots like that all the time and you basically have 11 goalkeepers. Footballers are some of the most give an inch take a mile people I’ve ever seen.

What's an unnatural position? depending on what you are doing natural positions are different, as i said before hands behind the back is the most unnatural position.

Howard Webb has been chief refereeing officer of the PGMOL for over 3 years. The officiating was bad before he started, it’s got progressively worse during his tenure. He should hang his head in shame at just how bad his organisation and his employees are at doing their jobs. Utterly shambolic stuff on a near weekly basis now.

The thing is, they’re not performing poorly in the eyes of the people that run the game. They’re doing exactly what is instructed of them.

'If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law.'

The rules are too complicated and the beauty of football is that you can throw four jumpers down and have a game. We have so many variations of laws now that no one can keep up. If I was in charge I would have fewer rules and let referees manage the game they see in front of them. Handball seems fairly straight forward to me - either deliberate and let the referee decide that or if it hits the hand it’s handball.

If the player had time to move the arm out of the way but doesn't then that is a pen too. Can't have crosses blocked by arms that could have reached an attacker.

If you are a few yards away and it's pinged at an arm then that shouldn't count.

I`d bet that a few yards would be interpreted very differently if its a sly 6 player than a non sly 6 team player.
