Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Oh defo, on that we agree. To go from where we were last year to be worrying about who is going to start behind the striker out of Grealish, Illy, KDH, Dibling, Charly and McNeil is MAD.

I just want to avoid issues at the other end undoing whatever benefits that setup brings. As an Evertonian it’s always gonna be hard not to foresee some kind of catastrophe approaching!!
What is the range of net spend we face over this summer?
Alcaraz
Travers
Barry
King
D-Hall
Aznou
Grealish loan
Dibling

Tried significantly to get Tete who was on a free. We've chucked quite a bit of cash around this summer, there's sides that'd kill for our signings, let alone the new gaff. Are we mortgaged up to the eye balls this summer for P&S which bleeds into much reduced activity in January and next summer? The sting of the points deduction is still there, BMD can't have created so much new money already, was it 6 or 7 ooc (out of contract) that we got nothing for. Players walking is value off the squad (I realise playing value and contract value are different things). I didn't foresee us spending like we have and possibly still being in the mix to spend more. Was there a new tv and image rights deal I missed?
On reflection was I going to be concerned that we didn't sign enough and we were gambling on luck getting us through or is it unfounded worry that moneys spent, signings made, squad padded out and now we challenge a bit better than we have for a good while?

Looming catastrophe. Infectious idea.

With Chermiti leaving on loan, that leaves a RB, CM and striker as the minimum signings by Monday 7pm.
You never played the fax machine late deal time game before? 7pm... give over, so long as an agent has tea n crumpets lined up and there's a wad of cash in an envelope then deals can be cut 1am Tuesday morning.

Wonder how much we valued the women’s team and Goodison that we sold to… ourselves.

We sold the stadium and women's team. Our wage bill has also come down a fair bit. I reckon branthwaite will leave next summer, unless we somehow get European football.

I think we'll be ok.

Dibling would of used all our tensioning budget, just can’t see us bringing in 2 or 3 in 2 days.

Bringing in a young, relatively cheap CB kicks that can further down the road and is also another building block in creating a longer term, sustainable squad.
This one I don't get at all.

We don't play in Europe and we're not great at cups. Injury free our first CDs can play every match. CDs also tend to play 90 minutes when they start matches.

Having a young CB for the future is a good idea on paper, but he'll never get the matching he needs. And when he might be needed, every manager will prefer the alternative with experience over a youngster that hasn't played football in months.

You'll have to expect to pay £20-25 million for a young CD that plays ahead of Keane. If that young CD spend a year on Everton's bench without getting matches, he'll be a significantly worse footballer in 12 months time. His market value can easily be halved in a year. He can spend a season on the bench, not playing a minute and cost us more than Grealish.

Additionally being a squad player for Everton will never be attractive for proper talents. Those that come sign for the money or because they're poorly advised. And they won't stay around long enough to be first choice players.

We signed a young CD in Jake O'Brien last summer. Dyche preferred Keane at the start of the season when Branthwaite was injured, while O'Brien got a couple of chances without impressing in the EFL cup. Injury free Tarkowski and Branthwaite played everything. In January O'Brien was unhappy and wanted to leave. And you can't really blame him.

But should we spend money now for a new squad player that wants to leave in January if Tarkowski and Branthwaite stays fit?

Do people still use CDs?
