Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

A bigger squad than last season ≠ a full squad.

We’ve done a pretty good job with the rebuild by and large, but we look light in defence. I sincerely hope I’m wrong but we’re not going to be a side so free-scoring that we can afford to shrug our shoulders at the extra goals we’ll ship as a result of a major defensive reshuffle.

Our CBs are Branthwaite, Tarks, Keane and JOB. It looks very much like JOB is going to be first choice RB, with Coleman in reserve. Branthwaite is currently injured and seems to pick up injuries quite a bit, so we’re down to Keane and Tarks before Coleman is called upon. Even notwithstanding potential injuries (which I agree you can’t predict but you’d be foolish to completely ignore) it’s a position where the occasional suspension might well be likely.

Coleman was excellent against Mansfield but I personally would be nervous, expecting the same out of him for 5-10 PL games in a season, which would almost certainly need to include 2-3 in a row under either of the aforementioned circumstances.

Bringing in a young, relatively cheap CB kicks that can further down the road and is also another building block in creating a longer term, sustainable squad.

It’d be a decent window without one but the signing would push it into very good territory for me.
I think we're coming at the same issue from different directions, we've got a solid eleven now, and some means to make changes from the bench, it shows we're not a patchwork side through the immediate changes made that we're casting opinions on what cover would be best long term.

If he did well in the Championship all our fans would still say it was a no mark league.

I dont really agree with this as half this forum seem to be desperate for us to sign fellows and the other half seem desperate for us to sign hackney

….wouldn’t surprise me if nobody in the Championship wants him, he’s done absolutely nothing to justify interest. Lucky the man who bought him is at Rangers, be interesting how he performs but it seems Moyes has made up his mind if the buy option is included.

I dont believe no one in the championship would be after a highly rated youth prospect, whos good enough to of played in the PL and the Portuguese league while being in PL squad.

Seeing as teams in the championship consistently take players with no first team experience.

I think it is about getting his confidence back...has barely played since joining us. He will play consistently there, build his fitness and getting his confidence back. Perhaps next year then if he does well he can go on another loan in a more competitive league.

Doesn't he only have 2 years left on his contract?

Not sure thats a good move, Rangers are a total mess at the moment..
No one is buying him.
Don't see a problem with it .
If he's a success there thats the whole point.
There's no point loaning him to say a Championship side as to develop him when the club esp Moyes doesn't fancy him and will never play for us.
Loan fee sell at the end , we move on with another striking option coming in.

Oh defo, on that we agree. To go from where we were last year to be worrying about who is going to start behind the striker out of Grealish, Illy, KDH, Dibling, Charly and McNeil is MAD.

I just want to avoid issues at the other end undoing whatever benefits that setup brings. As an Evertonian it’s always gonna be hard not to foresee some kind of catastrophe approaching!!

Terrible idea to send him to a no mark league.

He does well there then so what its a no mark league it means nothing. He does poorly there then he's not good enough for a no mark league.

He should be going to the championship at the minimum.

This feels very much like the club has given up on him and aren't remotely intrested in developing him. But just willing to get whatever they can for him.

Very poor from the club imo
Maybe no championship clubs were interested and the lad wanted game time?

Makes this loan make or break, I guess. He either does well enough to get another year or 2 contract extension and a more ambitious loan (or best case so well that he’s straight in the squad), or he shows nothing and we either sell for whatever we can get or scav up one last loan fee before sending him on his way.
