Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Surely we must be after another striker? Going into a full season with only 2 strikers that would be crazy.
I would have thought so, unless the plan for 3 striker to be a midfielder who can play there? Like Moyes did with Cahill and Fallani, back in the day. But it's not ideal.

Someone in the Richarlison mould, who can player right along the front line, is my bet. But I can't see us getting anyone special, this late in the window.

None of those were actually developed by us. Possibly from now they may be. Only exceptions I can think of is Coleman, DCL, Lukaku to some extent and Branthwaite over the last 10+ years. Rooney, McMahon, Robinson, Lookman, Kean, Nkounkou, Vlasic all left to develop better elsewhere.
Yeah but you are saying Moyes is only here for the ‘now’ players. Yet we have just signed 3 who still need a lot of work and time that he is going to have to manage. As well as the fact Armstrong has played in the last 2 games.

Last Jan we took the stance not to get additional players in as we weren’t desperate and the right ones weren’t available. If Moyes and the board think better opportunities will come up in Jan than at this late stage, then I’ll accept that, given the work that has been done.
We have one of the smallest squads in the league. Are still lacking in key positions and we know we are losing 2 of our best players (plus another squad player) in December when games come thick and fast, regardless of any injuries.

The money spent this summer is insane. Every club has loads of depth. We need more before this window closes.

Actual speed isn't really that relevant. We've all seen these lists our the quickest footballers, but to even come close to your max speed you'll need to run 20-30 meters in a straight line without the ball or opponents around you. That's why these lists often are dominated by central defenders. Most players don't need to make those kind of sprints.

It is a problem that when we set up to defend in 442, we are always 2v3 in the midfield. We're always outnumbered. We're always a step behind. It'll make the quickest players look slow. Pretty sure Barcelona's women team would make Everton's midfield look slow. That's not because their players run faster than ours.

Football isn't maths, but stats can't be ignored. We know that teams with less possession need to run more and have more sprints than the team that controls the match. To stay in your formation and move from side to side without getting hold of the ball, is exhausting. Both physically and mentally. While the opponents hardly break a sweat and keep their legs fresh. Good teams keep the ball and use it to break opponents. A team such as Everton would improve massively from having more control and possession in games. Stop chasing shadows.

And maybe most relevant is where the game is played. If you play a game with very little possession and defend deep, you're awfully far away from positions where you can create something for your own team. The vast majority of goals are scored within seconds from a team winning possession. Teams that are brave and defend with a high line will on average be 20-30 meters closer to goal when they win possession. Not strange that their players look so much quicker in transition.

Everton will need to have more control and more possession in matches. And they need the matches to be played further away from Pickford's goal. If they succeed with that, results will come.

And if pace was a problem in Everton's best starting eleven, Tarkowski would probably be the first one that needs to be replaced.
Good post.

People do underestimate how tiring it is without the ball, especially if the opposition is getting it out wide all game.

Just running 20 yards every time it goes to a full back/wide player is knackering over 90 mins.

I don't see us winning possession higher up pitch with current system. The press (if you can all it that) is non existent.

Winning the ball higher up pitch means less distance to goal, less passes to make.

I think it is about getting his confidence back...has barely played since joining us. He will play consistently there, build his fitness and getting his confidence back. Perhaps next year then if he does well he can go on another loan in a more competitive league.
He's a striker. Give him a season smashing in goals, regardless of the level, then he'll come back flying

….unlikely if the option to buy is included, means Rangers can have him if they want. Fee is probably agreed in case that happens.

We just need the likes of him and Patterson gone.
