Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Coleman is probably the worst example you could use, Moyes handling of him made him probably our greatest PL era RB!!!!!

But there was also Baines sitting it out for Lescott.

I think Moyes likes people he can trust, so young players are gonna need to wait till he trusts them.

We have signed mainly toddlers this Summer, theres no way somebody who hates youth would allow such a thing.

IMO

I think it's the prime example of Moyes going to tried and tested over giving the youth a chance.

He played him in midfield to begin with for most of the 10/11 and 11/12 seasons.

It was only in his last season after making him play in midfield for two entire seasons that he finally trusted him to play in defence.

I don’t support the signing of Soucek in the least, but I do think the midfield needs a big horrible see you next Tuesday. Just one that makes more sense from a financial standpoint. If he were on a free, all for it. Otherwise, get some other horrible grock in who can do the job but doesn’t look like such an albatross money wise

You don’t need a group of 19 year olds but to bring on an excruciatingly slow 30 year old on the decline that would currently be out 6th highest earner makes no sense and is the exact problem we ran into last time we had money to spend.
I actually think the way we’re operating under TFG will see us avoid making mistakes like that again tbh. I reckon they’ll defo try and get Soucek’s wages down and his contract would likely be a 2 year deal with a club option of another year which is much more sensible than what we’ve done in the past.

You also have the fact that Hibbert was a very good defender and gave us a lot of solidity. A bit like Myko does now. A young player that is a bit suspect defensively isn’t just going to replace them. Coleman was handled excellently as he went away to develop the defensive side and then was built into the team to help him build understanding with the players around him as a RM before taking the RB position for himself.

How people think that is a negative about Moyes beyond me.

Gareth Barry was 32 when he joined us on loan on transfer deadline day and many Evertonians were a bit Soucek’d about him joining. Similar positions too. Turned out to be a fantastic Everton player.

Barry couldn’t run but he could pass the ball 5 yards that’s before I get into every other area Barry was superior to this galoot

One of their boys comparison doesn't really add up here: Yes Rondon played at 2 or 3 clubs for FSW. Gylfi was just a period we were overspending driven by Mosh
What about the Martinez ex Wigan signing.
Alcaraz ( the Wigan CB one) was the worst player we ever signed in my time supporting the Blues (almost 60 years) , other than perhaps Glen Keeley.
Almost worth a thread of it's own , lol.

Barry was a CDM and a fantastic one at that. He read the game so well he didn't need pace as long as there was an engine alongside him.

Soucek is not a DM and does not have the positional sense. Imagine watching Gareth Barry trying to play as an 8 or 10 (and in his 30s at that) 😆😆

I thought the whole point of signing him was that Moyes said we needed a DM urgently.
