Everton Youth Teams Thread

It's swings and roundabouts I think. There are potentially benefits to players being given the matchday experience and it being a carrot for young players to be involved, but there's also the possibility of players getting ahead of themselves if they're introduced too soon or even just thinking nobody has done enough in training over the last week or so to deserve that little bonus. All in all I don't think it's necessarily a massive deal either way.

The other point is, which I must admit I didn't consider when I've made points about the bench before, is that if you're travelling with the first team, it often means you're not playing for your own game for the youth team/reserves. So players end up not playing.

There's a debate about whether training is better than matches at that level on a game by game basis, but in general having players miss weeks of games would not seem sensible to me.

"Wrexham AFC’s Academy Head of Player and Pathway Development (PDP) Nick Chadwick is to leave the Club to take up a position at Premier League side, Everton FC.

He joined in August 2023 and as the first employee of the Academy was instrumental in contributing to its growth and success leading on the design, implementation and delivery of the coaching curriculum, introducing individual development plans, and identifying high-potential players across all age groups.
He played a key role in ensuring a smooth pathway for our Academy players and their transition into the First Team.

Chadwick also played a key role in the development of Harry Ashfield, who broke into first-team squad and most recently scored against Preston North End earlier this month.

Wrexham AFC would like to take this opportunity to thank Nick for his contribution to the Club during his time with us and we wish him every success in his future endeavours."

The Nick Chadwick appointment was almost inevitable, I’m a big fan of his. He’s done a fantastic job at Wrexham with virtually a blank piece of paper to start with , they’ll be gutted to lose him. As well as developing individuals he was also getting good team results , particularly at u18 level. Good all round experience in recent years too , he’s the kind of ex player appointment I welcome .
