He’s been playing in Turkey,
But his future’s been murky.
The Geezer’s now been sacked,
So to England he comes back.

No mate. He was just trying to weaponise the lack of transfers in to say "Look, I've been let down. How can I be expected to get decent PL placing?".
He wouldn't be wrong, to be fair to him. We need a RB and a CF. CB has become a bit more of a priority due to injuries. If we sign nobody else, he'd have every right to feel a bit let down.

I'm not I've watch Jake play a couple games at the end of the season at center back and he was far better than Keane , Keane has been decent this season but let's not partake in revisionism , he has been a liability in the past
That's true. He has also performed competently at times. The jury is still out for me on JOB at centre half.

From Paddy Boyland at TheAthletic just now

Everton have made eight summer signings but manager David Moyes remains keen to strengthen before Monday’s deadline.

Moyes started the window targeting up to 10 new additions, with the club recently having assessed targets both at right-back and in central midfield, but admitted he was not sure “whether we get anything over the line” before the deadline.

It has been a challenging summer for Everton. While Moyes declared himself happy with the signings that have come in, and praised Jack Grealish’s early impact, he reiterated that “lots of players had chosen not to come”.

There is still a sense, as the Scot put it, that they will not be able to “repair all the damage” in one summer, and will need to be active in future windows.

Central midfield is one area in which there could still be movement. Moyes has been keen to reunite with West Ham’s Tomas Soucek, but Everton were given the impression the Czech was not for sale — certainly not unless replacements are signed.

There has been a significant amount of loan interest in youngster Harrison Armstrong, 18, from the Championship after his successful spell at Derby County in the second half of last season.

Moyes said the teenager has the potential to be a “very good future Everton player” and the club are weighing up whether his development will be best served by another temporary move away. They are mindful that they will almost certainly lose midfield stalwart Idrissa Gueye to the African Cup of Nations in December and will need cover, whether it is Armstrong or a new addition.

Striker Youssef Chermiti was left out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory against Mansfield Town and is likely to head on loan, with Rangers one club to have expressed an interest in his services. The Scottish side’s director of football Kevin Thelwell brought Chermiti to Everton in 2023.

Just caught up on the Moyes presser now.

Reading between the lines, it seems like another striker is off the cards despite Chermiti likely going out on loan. Sounded like it was the more 'defensive' areas that he wanted to focus on and referenced the AFCON, suggesting that he'd ideally like someone else in the IGG mould to come in to cover?
