New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

I hadn't realised what people were on about regarding what we could see on TV as I went the brighton match and haven't seen anything since. Here's some screenshots. It's not exactly the 'blue walls' we were promised is it. Imagine when we're playing them lot... all the crap they bring along like birthday balloons and stuff is going to be embarrassing to say the least.

Isn't that down to the fans? Everton can't instruct fans to turn up wearing the full kit, adorned in flags, badges and tat.

That premium seat deal for tonights game looked good value

I completely agree. It's handed to opposing fans the biggest visual impact in the stadium and allows their followers to be seen as dominating the proceedings. How on earth the club felt that having them on display like this was a great idea is beyond comprehension. No fan consulted on this would ever have countenenced it.

But surely this is one of the more easily fixable issues about the layout of the stadium?

Shift all the away fans onto the upper terracing and out of the lower deck. That way the north end of the ground can become - for tv purposes - a continuous mass of Everton supporters.

The stuff you talk about in terms of disabled bays needs considering too. I feel loathe to say they're a 'problem' because its very emotive and if I had family there I wouldn't thank people for seeing it that way...but IT IS a massive visual issue in a designated 'Home End' of a stadium. It just is. I have no idea of the solution on that or even whether one should rightfully be pursued, but anyone who believes it doesn't detract from what we see in football as an orthodox layout is kidding themsleves.

This stadium layout doesn't work for Evertonians. It's no use saying it does, because it doesn't.
Check PL rules on away fans.

The layout does work for Evertonians, just not for you.

I don't get it, am I missing something. Its only modern tosh football that's got rid of the 'away' end. Original park end anyone... Its only because of the telly position. For those that go to the match its doesn't make the slightest difference which bit they are in.
Good point, and keep them in for half an hour at the end as well like they used too.

My concern has and always will be the ice n frost blowing in off the Irish sea in mid December, it'll be freezing to the top tiers of whichever stand has it blowing in upon, and if it rains and everyone is walking home, that trudge back to transport or town centre is going to be ludicrous bad. Frozen solid, kids crying, hypothermia, ambulances, the works.
Nothing like a bit of positivity eh?
You're 100% correct though 😇

I predict the comeback of the long, padded "managers coat" from the 1990's.

Transport links, parking, preferred routes and match going patterns will all emerge over the coming season. Things will get better and that doesn't mean that Rotherham hasn't made a pig's ear of the situation.

Fingers crossed that it only rains when the red side play.

Don’t think I’ve even seen half way up the south stand on tv.

I had an early reminder whilst sat in my new seat in the South Upper, of the new order in our new gaff. As a veteran of fifteen years sat in the Street end having got used to the rough and tumble of close proximity fans effing and blinding, farts smelling of brown ale and chips and so on, I felt like the loneliest fella on the planet as heads turned towards me following a tirade of industrial language out of my mouth.

Quick one about the lights for a night match (I didn't go last night but saw on TV), the whole flickering thing I think can be a lot better. City used to turn the lights down (bar emergency stair lighting) keep it dark for 20 seconds or so, let the atmosphere build then bring the players out, worked really well.

Got to say, I'm not that impressed with the Everton stadium staff/fan services in general. Heard loads of crazy stories on here, where it sounds like they just don't care and witnessed a few as well.

During the Roma game, I heard a woman ask the steward if there were any escalators at the South West corner (we were at the top of the stairs on the concourse). He just said "I don't know. We're figuring this out just like you are".

Fella I work with said his mate offered him 2 tickets for last night's game but was having trouble transferring them to him. He phoned the club who said he couldn't do it. When he said "you're going to end up with empty seats", they basically responded with "it is what it is".

My mate tried to get a pint from the self-serve shop last night, just as they were kicking off for the second half. He scanned his card on the barrier and got in. He walked over to the counter that was full of pre-poured pints and asked for 2, but was told he couldn't have them as they were no longer serving alcohol. They also switched off all the e-bars.

I know these are mostly teething issues, but it does seem like they haven't been trained and are being a bit arsey about stuff.
It sounds like they've hired a load rubbish uncaring and cynical staff.

I wouldn't quite go that far, but you do have a point - unfortunately I think PL regs say that we can't just shift away fans up in the gods (only clubs who've got historic segregation in place can get away with that), so where they are is where they're staying.

Wolves spring to mind as the ones who look worst for this as most of the lower tier you see on TV is away fans on the side of the pitch, so it's not a unique problem.

The TV angle of the south stand isn't particularly flattering for some reason. The positioning of the disabled areas there (and you're right to flag this as a sensitive topic) doesn't do anything for the aesthetics of making it look intimidating, but I don't think you can do anything about that now.

A lot of this could be rectified by simply not having so much exposed concrete on view

Yes, cosmetic improvement will help. However, and though this is a fantastic looking stadium, the coverage of it wont be beaming out around the world an imposing home support.
