2025/26 Seamus Coleman

Time and time again experts keep saying how much Seamus brings to the club and how valuable he is to have around. Likewise at the match Seamus is probably the most universally popular of our players. If you were not so biased you'd accept the former, if you went to the match more you'd understand the latter.

All good and valid points if you are part of the coaching staff, but not when you are on the books as a player, but never actually play anymore, due to your body no longer being able to stand the rigours of top flight footy - not his fault, but giving him another playing contract was just insane.

More than happy for him to be at the club. I’ve never doubted his importance to the club. But he isn’t able to do the job of a player (ie being available and able to play regularly) and hasn’t for a few years.

I’ve got no biases about Coleman. He has been a key player for us for a long time and is a club legend. But he should have moved in to coaching already. Baines was also vitally important to us and is very popular with players etc and still is, even as a coach.

Not getting into the whole “I’m a better fan because I’ve been able to get a season ticket” argument. I go several home games a year and to some away games. Circumstances limit that, doesn’t make me less of a fan. Don’t be a bellend about that.

Mate you started the bellendery by having a pop and comparing Seamus to an old piece of furniture! He's been needed as a player due to our terrible recruitment. That's not his fault.

Except people infinitely better than you, qualified in medical and sport science, have a different opinion and think he is fit enough for another year's contract. Hell maybe even these so called bloody experts have access to Seamus himself to assess these things first hand.

I guess its having different views that make the world a more interesting place!

Is he playing tonight? If so, it'll be good to see him play at the new stadium.

I see him in a playing capacity to provide mainly emergency cover or used to protect the other full back options now and providing a big benefit in the background in training.

And I wouldn't be surprised if he was part of the coaching team proper from next year. My crystal ball has him as Baines's assistant when Moyes goes upstairs or leaves.

Cannot understand the abuse he gets in here, when there have been numerous other financial drains on this club who hung around for years in our physio room. Not to mention he's one of the most humble and genuine fellas out there. Same can't be said for the mercenaries that passed through our doors over the years.
