Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

As a TDD, body through the door for squad depth Soucek is a fine addition. But he's not replacing Doucoure - KDH has already done that. We have better squad depth at 10 South NDiaye, Grealish and Alcaraz, all offering more/different profile than Doucoure. As an 8, KDH is a big upgrade.

What we need in the midfield is squad depth in the 8 and/or a holding midfielder to sit in front of the defence and give more security to the backline. Soucek is better at the former and capable at the latter

We're in no position to buy a 30 year old on 90k/week for squad depth.

I agree with this. If you look at our business with a keen eye, we're now dependent on three kids hitting the ground running and the two signings for the here and now - KDH and Grealish - staying fit and performing.

Now, it could all work out for us and the three kids make an instant impact - but I wouldn't have thought that was realistic.

We have lots of work still to do over the coming week. And there will still be plenty to do for the next window.
So, after signing players, we are hoping they that play well and stay fit: sounds pretty standard for everyone, not just us mate.

I thought Iroegbunam did well on Sunday but really Mainoo is way ahead of him and is two years younger. Mainoo has ten international caps and in my opinion a top prospect.
A week ago we were talking about a loan for Tim to a Championship club.
Mainoo has about 9.5 of those international caps because he plays for Man United. Not a bad player but was rated for too good far too soon by the big 6 loving media.

While I’d like to see KDH played further back and Grealish brought central (Illy, Jack, Dibling behind the ST), as of now I’m doubting we see that much from the start. We have quite a lot of evidence so far that Moyes is wanting to having more of a midfielder in that role behind the striker (Doucoure and now KDH), which probably means that Dibling comes off the bench initially and Garner is pushed to midfield once Myko is back.

With that in mind, a CM becomes very important alongside a RB. I wonder if we have funds for another largeish expenditure. I’d guess one more smaller permanent singing (Maitland-Niles?) and then two loans, one being a Mangala type CM.

I’ve always liked Soucek and have thought in the past he’d be popular here, but he’s not a holding midfielder, and I think since he’s not, he’d be better served in a true 3 person midfield due to his lack of speed. If he played in Moyes’s current system, I just think he’d be exposed as one of the two “8s” and I would really rather see Grealish, Illy or Charly “10” position, or KDH for that matter.

He doesn't really fit the current system tbh, Amorim wants someone more defensive and he wants to push forward much of the time. He is also due a new contract and wants mega bucks and the club don't think he is quite in that bracket just yet but seemingly he ain't budging. Rumours that he wants £180-200k per week.
Amorim is just covering hiw own A$$ ...he signed Ugate for that role, now he realizes he is too slow for EPL but Mainoo is somehow the problem? Good managers get the best out of young talent, maybe get them to make adjustments- not push them all out the door.
