Soucek in the Doucoure role is a substantial downgrade.

If we need a 10, that is Alcarazs position and he puts a really good thru ball for the striker.

Secondly, are you familiar with the concept of squad depth/cover? Not a soul is advocating for this guy to come in and play 30 games. We’ve got some lovely footballers to play high up the pitch; should the occasion call for a bit more of an industrial approach we can lash him on and start lobbing balls into the box.

I can recall us being the better team loads of times over the years, and getting nothing. Unable to convert. So I’ll take Sunday as a positive development rather than a lucky one.

soucek has a nose for goal, no doubts about that, but he doesn’t contribute much in general play. He doesn’t link the play well, he’s slower than doucoure, he isn’t a great passer of the ball. I’m afraid his goals would cover a multitude of sins in the same way doucoure’s did, and we all know how most evertonians felt about him.

He’d probably be one of our slowest ever recruits, and we want just the opposite at this point.

I'm not sure that's really what we'd be doing though. I can't imagine why he would swap his current role at West Ham to be a back up player here, and as we could really do with strengthening the starting midfield it would seem an odd one to just add a super sub to come on and win some headers when we need it. I don't think he's a bad player and I would be horrified at the signing, but it would seem a bit of a strange decision to bring him in as he doesn't really fit the profile of what we're lacking in my opinion. It would have the concerning look of just bringing someone in because it's an easy deal and they're available rather than because we've identified them as a player we need.

For what it’s worth, since you asked, I still think our strategy and planning for the window was all over the place and Moyes pulling a rabbit out of a hat with no wingers or full backs available to him for the opening two games hasn’t changed that one bit.

With you on the strategy, but surely Ndiaye and Grealish count as having wingers available?

If this is true. Fort seems the obvious choice. Not getting in barcas team they need the money so they can register players, he knows aznou..

But I don’t see Moyes playing 2 19 year olds down the one side

He’s not the type of profile to spend actual money on for a bit part role and I think people are gravely mistaken if the guy the manager is familiar with and clearly pushing for is just not going to play.

Pretty sure regardless of who comes in at RB, Moyes will still prefer to start with O'Brien and Myko.
