In that in 12 months of leaving here he scored double digits in PL goals and assists ++, played in The CL, won the Under 21 European Championship and voted plyer of that torment, then called up for the senior international team - within 12 months.

It was good business in the same way it was good business for Southampton to sell Dibling, they were forced to sell their best player by being below in the food chain and to mitigate mismanagement. Hes thrived in a different environment.

On the deal itself what good was it - the money disappeared into a back home on nothing ness - we never got our striker that Jan and its taken us until to replace him.

People want to believe hes awful, that we got a brilliant deal, when really he was plucked away from here on Newcastle whim because of our own mismanagement and he thrived with months of leaving here.

Hs worth £80 million, because Newcastle payed £40 - why would they sell him for the same or less, if they want to sell him at all. Same as we wont with Branthwaite or Dibling when the time comes.

I never know why people comfort themselves around selling him being a brilliant deal - when the club was being run by clowns and claelty being mismanaged - is this th eonw peice they got right!
Marcus Stewart and Michael Bridges scored 19 premier league goals in a season. James Beatie scored 23 premier league goals in a season - should they be hailed in the Hall of Fame for having a good season?

Harry Maguire was in the team of the tournament for Euro 2020 when anyone who actually understands football would have had John Stones in the team of the tournament as he was levels above Maguire but people seem to love a centre backs that just wins headers in 2020.

Kyle Walker was in the team of the tournament for Euro 2024...even Stevie Wonder could see that he was completely washed and a liability.

I wouldn't go by x or y being in the team of a tournament meaning they are a world beater given the examples provided above.

Gordon had a very good season in a strong team built around his strengths. He has since scored 6 goals with 5 assists in 36 premier league games. Alex Iwobi has scored 9 goals with 7 assists in his last 40 premier league games by way of comparison.

It was a good deal at that time given what the player had shown beforehand and that the club had to sell due to the psr/ffp issues. I don't dispute the mismanagement of the latter but by jove I would have much rather sold Gordon for £45-£50 million to have a chance of avoiding relegation/incurring further point deductions than sell say Jordan Pickford...

I don't believe Gordon is awful but the reality is he's lacking in the three basic core skills of a professional footballer - passing, shooting/finishing and tackling. His best attributes are his fitness levels/engine and pace. He's a good ball carrier and he occasionally delivers a good cross.

Kudus is arguably a better footballer than Gordon - he was just sold for circa £55 million. Newcastle can value Gordon at £80 million but nobody apart from a mug desperate team like Man Utd is paying that with better options available elsewhere.

Mate I admire that post for the wildness alone - Marcus Stewart! 😂

But nah. ;)

Boyland/Athletic reporting the sell on fee is less than reported.

Does sound as though Southampton folded.
100%. Considering at start of summer there was talk of £60-70m. Then they wanted in excess of £50m when they rejected our offer.

Clearly they wanted spurs or arsenal to bid but the fact they came back to us after we withdrew says to me that no one else even tested the water because they were briefing numbers way too high.
