2025/26 James Tarkowski

Absolutely agree.

He was very good second half but that mistake in the first half was very poor.
That mistake was poor and almost very costly.
But it occurred because Brighton were excellent in quickly closing down his options.
It was a split second hesitation as his final option was snuffed out.
Poor , but not earth shatteringly so.
If we didn’t have Pickford in goal though , judgement would have been far harsher.

I was in a very tiny minority of people at the end of last season saying I wanted us to start phasing this fella out of the first team. He’s a crisis defender, there’s a reason he’s played for relegation haunted teams his entire career. It’s quite obvious to me that Branthwaite is the real leader and calming presence out of the two of them. He looks all at sea when Branthwaite isn’t there.

He was bad at the start of last season and turned it around. There will be a point when he either doesn’t turn it around, or someone in better form takes his place.

It's always been kind of weird to me that people didn't universally notice this after the start of last season.

Looks like we’re trying to play him into fitness and form. For all those ‘why are people having a go at Keane. It not Tarkwoski who’s been worse’ brigade, it’s because Tarkwoski has given us 3 seasons of absolutely brilliant form whereas Keane has given us 8 years of utter muck and is putting some average performances in when a new contract rolls around.

Get Tatkowski and Myko back to full fitness and form, put Jarrod back in and put a decent DM in front and we’ll have no issues at the back.
