Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Have any of the other clubs managed to break through the glass ceiling? Newcastle and Villa came closest and they have had to sell their best youngsters just to meet the financial rules which have led to the closed shop. They are struggling to hold on to the coat-tails of the top clubs. If anything, they are more likely to fall back than make the necessary jump to title challengers. Newcastle's best player is on strike because he wants to win things. He obviously doesn't believe that they can challenge.

Anyway, I really hope that you're right.

The Chelsea or Brighton model is the only realistic and sustainable way to do it.

Sign as many young players as possible … as early as possible

Loan them out for a couple of years so that the loan fees cover the transfer fees paid for them

2 years into their contracts their book values have dropped and if they have done ok you will make PSR profit and actual profit

The ones that dot. Quite reach the level you offload to EFL teams and include a sell on clause

Rinse and repeat

You can either do that or sign the likes of Anzou and Dibling who can add value to the squad.

If both reach a high level of potential then you sell them for big fees e.g £100mil. Then you reinvest the lot into 4 similar profile players, then the next time sell 2 and sign 4.

This way, gradually youre able to build up a top young team while also benefitting massively from PSR.

The catch or course is that for the first few seasons you need the recruitment to be spot on.

Trouble with that is the eggs are all in one basket so to speak.

If one flops you’re stuck

If one runs their contract down you’re stuck

Chelsea spend 200-500m every window and never get hit with PSR

I think if you have 3 good years of rectuitment then youre set up well.

Year 1 = 2 players
Year 2 = Sell 2 and sign 4
Year 3 = Sell 2 and sign 4

= 6 young players in the squad.

I love Branthwaite but I wonder if his injury concerns continue whether we could sell him next summer.

Then you could replace with 2 top class u21 centre backs for example.

I just cant see this being the way forward with Moyes though.

I think people forget O'Brien isn't a right back. He is competing for a centre back spot. We should be selling Patterson and buying a first team and a young up and coming right back.

100%. Theres not may around that ive rated as being able to reach the top level.

The 2 that stood out for me last year as being attainable were Kayode who joined Brentford and Wesley now with Roma.

If no one stands out or isnt currently available then Fort could be an interesting short term loan. Would like to see an option if we do a deal, but very unlikely.

We're desperate for a half decent right back so if he's that let's loan him. Should have secured KWP the day after his deal ran out at Southampton but our recruitment hadn't been well targeted, as usual.

KWP isn't anywhere near good enough for the wages he was looking for, honestly what is it with our fans and their love for crap players.

KWP would have been a bit of a waste of money i think.

Would prefer us to go for someone long term.

Can he defend though? He looks decent going forward.

Hes not a beast defensively, more of an attacking player. But we have O'Brien for games where we need defence first.

Not ideal to loan a very young right back without an option to buy if he requires time to settle in

Definitely not ideal. But we'd get a 19 year old Barca trained attacking right back for a low cost.

Also we could then build a relationship with Barca and loan a player from them next summer as well...

He and Aznou will know each other as well so both should be able to settle in quite quickly.
