Transfer Rumour Josh Brownhill

Have you ever bothered to watch Brownhill play ?
All our current midfielders who play in his position are at least his equal.
They are average .
He is slightly below average .
30 year old , no- mark .
There is a world of footballers out there .
Why settle for this non entity?
He won’t improve us , he will command a hefty signing on fee , a substantial wage and would no doubt negotiate at least a 2 year contract.
In one years time we would be on here complaining how we are saddled with this fella for another year and how his wages hamper us improving.
Imagine having a 32 year old Brownhill playing for us 😂
Let him go to the MLS .

Yeah, Tim Iroegbunam isn’t his equal.

Yeah, Tim Iroegbunam isn’t his equal.
Iroegbunam had a great start to his career here last season . He was unfortunate to suffer injury and needs to recover that form. But he is young and has time.
Brownhole is old and not very good .
Even if Iroegbunam has to be replaced as you contend , there are plenty of young affordable players to approach as being better than Tosh Brownhole isn’t a high bar let’s be honest .
Hardly a massive queue of clubs eager to stuff his pockets full of signing on fee, which tells you something.
He isn’t even what you’d describe as lowest hanging fruit , more like deepest submerged fungi.

Are you actually sure about that like?

Also yes, clearly he had such a great start to his career here that we lost every single game he played in conceding multiple goals.

Tosh Brownhole 😂

I don’t think we need him, but he’s definitely not as bad as you’re making him out to be (I don’t think).

Massive props for the name though, loving it

Yeah, Tim Iroegbunam isn’t his equal.
Regardless of your low opinion of Iroegbunam , there are multitudes of players younger and superior to Brownhill , cheaper and younger . They don’t even have to be that good to be superior because he isn’t even an average PL player , he’s a decent 30 year old Championship player, at best.
I understand your need to see us strengthen, but Brownhill would do the opposite , he would weaken us , leaching funds from us for years for minimal recompense.
Find a more impressive hill to die on .
Brownhill is just hillock, and no one looks glorious sacrificing their reputation on a lump of soil .
You’re better than this .

I have no doubt there are, but they play for other clubs and we can’t afford them. Currently we need 5 players just to fill out a Premier League squad for the season, Tyler Onyango gets on our bench as it currently stands. I think on the 23rd August it’s time some fans took a step back and actually assessed the state of our squad properly.

The thing is, as a free agent, Brownhill wouldn't be coming here on a one year contract or for buttons.

He'll be asking for decent money on a contract of a few years.

We all know he'd be a stopgap and in 12 months time when we want to improve, everyone will be blaming the club for not being able to get rid of him.

Bringing him in now would be a short-sighted move which would eventually become another problem.

Much like DCL, it really doesn’t seem like he’s going to get this fat wedge that he’s holding out for and will have to lower his demands to a reasonable number if he actually wants to continue his career. Wherever he ends up I can confidently say he is not going to be on £90k a week for 3 or 4 years.

At this point we are desperate for midfield depth and rapidly running out of time in the window. I think going into a Premier League season with Iroegbunam next in line to step in if our 36 year old best midfielder needs a rest or gets injured is just asking for a large dosage of trouble.

Mike let Brownhill go. It’s such a weird hill to die on. There must be plenty of young players from abroad we can get on loan with a purchase option who are better. Play Armstrong- develop him.

But there isn’t is there mate.

It’s the 23rd of August.

I get it, and your point is correct but Brownhill is pretty much last resort and we have some time before it gets to that.

I'm not massively enthused on the signing, but I remember thinking the same on Ashley Young who did well. As long as the salary was sensible, I can see sense in it. In the same way I could see sense in rolling on Keane's contract, or offering Doucoure a cheaper deal.

You do need a squad.

I have no idea where this “Ashley Young did well” stuff comes from I keep reading. Like at least 80% of our appearances he was a liability.
