2025/26 Thierno Barry

Mate these shouts only apply to us because we've got a history of over spending on tat.

Thelwell had Guirassy lined up for 9 millions.

I appreciate your point of view but there no way you have to spend 50+ on a proper forward these days, especially 30 million pound ones not deemed ready for the PL.
Who are all of these cheap strikers we should sign mate?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say, people who have watched training
There’s plenty of players that aren’t great in training but go out there and smash it. We will never know how good or bad he is unless we throw him in and watch him for like 10 games. We don’t even have anything to lose because Beto is crap.

Yeah...we're certainly shelling out 30 mil on them either.
Yeah because they're all older, and have already likely hit their ceiling or near enough.

Barry is worth more becuase the view of a lot of people in football is that he has potential to get a lot better than he currently is.

Obviously it's frustrating to feel like we're not immediately kicking on as much as we would like, but needs to be a long term plan under TFG. Under Moshiri all we did was sign 25-27 year old players who were in that category of being too good for Championship or lesser European leagues, but never good enough to really do well at a top PL club.

Those players you've listed for me fall into that category, and if you fill your team with those players you might not go down but you're not ever gonna really go up a level. Just my opinion.

I'm lost here.

Why do you think Barry being raw/work in progress might just be paper nonsense? Have you not got eyes?

He is incredibly raw: looked it on YouTube, looked at it in the U21 Euros, looked it for us in pre-season.

It was completely obvious.
Ill be honest ive not seen enough of him to judge....

I just struggle with the idea that we have a tight budget and spent so much on a player not deemed ready....

It's like chermiti on steroids

I would start this kid against Brighton.
Two reasons.
1, I liked his first touches and link up play in the couple of games I've seen him in. If he nicks a goal it could be the start of something special, he is only 22 and the crowd getting behind him could work wonders. If he scores and we are winning comfortably Moyes needs to take him off to get the applause.
Not a lot to go on I know but Beto doesn't deserve to start after his shocker against Leeds.
2, if none of the above works out it would send a message to Beto that more is needed.

Moyes for all his successes in the market was never at his strongest with strikers.
He needs one who is willing to ‘run the channels ‘ endlessly chasing long balls .
In his first tenancy here the standing joke was that he used to break all the strikers.
Only Yakubo enjoyed any real success under him .
And he was built like a tank. Very effective though. Is he still playing ? Must only be in his early 40’s ? Could still do a job here.
Yakubu's passport probably shows him as being 28

Certainly not a forward who is a working progress.

Arokodare - Genk
Troy Parrott - Az
Ueda- Feyenoord

Any of the 3 above...get 2 of the above and we're doing ok.
I've just looked at the stats of these players. They would all be considerably cheaper because their records are all incredibly average in very poor leagues and they are all over 24 so their scope for improvement is probably limited. There have been loads of strikers who have considerably better scoring records than these players who have been massive flops in the prem. If we are going to buy these sorts of players we may as well have kept Maupay.

Mate...

Respectfully, do you really think any of these players are less of a punt than Barry? If anything they're just a similar level of player but older, less room for growth and more risk of losing money.
Barry has a much better CV than any of these players too, his scoring record is better in better leagues. This is a general theme on here. When you ask people who we should buy instead they either don't know but are convinced there must be 50 right wingers in world football who fit the bill for us just because or they give a list of ridiculous options like this one but there is no consequence for making a terrible call.
