Beer, revisited

Well the Kirkstone Pass Inn has finally reopened, as an eight bed, sleeping twenty one, ultra modern Airbnb.

It`s been renamed the Kirkstone Pass Manor and prices for one night range from £1250 - £1450

It has lots of things outside, sauna, hot tub, garden etc, which will hardly ever be usable due to constant the driving wind and rain up there.

Reopened for business at the weekend and apparently the old bar is open to the general public. The only problem being, is that it looks like something from Charlie and the Chocolate factory, as does the whole interior - seriously !

My prediction, shut again by the New Year.

Had a few today :

from the Black Lodge Brewery.

A 'German' lager, Hilbre Helles ; I thought It's about time I spread my wings - was pleasantly surprised.

Continuing on the continental theme, I tried Baltic pilsner. Disappointed I have to say ; far too cold, and served in a mug with handle. I like my beer lukewarm !

The taste, from what I could discern was quite nice, reminiscent of Pils when it had some oomph, but as I said, too bloody cold.

is this normal when drinking this sort of gubbins ?

Never heard of this brewery, have to say it was lovely. For a pale ale it had body and was deliciously creamy.

Not as nice as other 'witches ' brews from Moorhouse, but perfectly acceptable.

I had this the other day, quite fruity, very nice. If you'd like a bit more detail, here's some nonsense :

'A: bright reddish amber hue with great clarity, coming with a thin beer head and very low carbonation.

S: dried-fruits on a par with lightly caramelised sugary malts, while Styrian Goldings aroma also abounds at the back, with its mildly spiciness, orangey hints, and a mildly apple-ish fruitiness.

T: like all other Loddon's brews that I've tried, this ale shows a deep imprint of lively, predominant hops, featuring Fuggles deeply herbal and wet tea-leafy notes and Styrian Golding's slightly spicy edge, both buttressing semi-roasted malts and bitter-sweet yet dryish nuttiness. Lingering, slightly tannic, yet moderate bitterness of dried leafy hops help prolong the aftertaste.'

Also had a peerless Peerless.

Also picked up the local Camra magazine - Wirrale Drinker - snazzy name. There's a few interesting bits and bobs in it, which at this moment in time I can't be arsed posting, but will do when the mood takes me.
Some news from over the water :

A new micropub opening on Market Street - says July but I haven't been there recently so don't know if it's opened yet. Called Twelve Sixty, apparently they've also got one in Liscard.

A new micropub (Hoptimist) is opening up in New Brighton on the corner of Seabank rd. and Sandfield rd.

A new micropub has been granted planning permission at 114 Wallasey Village, not far from the station and the Cheshire Cheese.

Brokerage have restarted brewing Popped Up Hat, a stronger version of Trappers Had - very nice it is too.
