Transfer Rumour Nathan Ake

Top quality player who I would love us to sign.

However Ake + no new RB or RW = marginal improvement at best given how important those other roles are to fill.

Get moving Everton.

I dont think he trusts Aznou and it means that Garner can cover RB. It also probably means Michael Keane is back on the bench. Im all for it based on that.
Love the fact that Everton sign someone in July and the manager doesnt " trust" them by August. Thank God we have so much money to blow:)

Anything above about £8m and we shouldn’t be going anywhere near it in all honesty.

Agreed. I think £8mil is generous for a 30 year old with his injury record.

Ake - Branthwaite/Mylolenko
Grealish - Alcaraz/Ndiaye
KDH - Gana
Travers - Pickford

We've spent the window strengthening our strongest positions.

I am disgusted.

He is really good but he is primarily a LCB. In the Dutch national team he also played quite a few matches at LB so that might be worth it. But why spend a lot of money on a 30 year old player who's best position is the same one as one of our star players? We dont have an infinite budget so we should try to fill in the real problempositions first before spending 20+ mil on a (although very good) versatilty player.

Its actually pathetic to take this approach all summer.

Incredibly poor waste of money down to Moyes.

Now we will have 3× LB & 5× CB.

Yet no RB, no RW & no DM.

Thank you David Moyes.

Just gonna leave this out there, first time here we had numerous windows where the recruitment was slow, a mess and in general a bit haphazard, obviously blue bill a huge part in that. Moyes the moves to United and they manage to sign I think two players - one of those fellaini they ended up paying about 6-7m more than they had too as they missed his release clause date.- they spent all dinner chasing fabregas and another lad and got neither - obviously it was the United recruitment guys fault. He then pops over to Spain cones back to Sunderland and overseas one of the worst transfer windows in the leagues history - Sunderland fans still detest him btw, players he brought in magnified their financial issues as they were stuck with old washed up or simply crap when they went down - obviously Sunderland's recruitment team was a shambles also. Then he went west ham and in the main they recruited awfully a few exceptions apart - he fell out with and banned the sporting director from the ground - obviously the recruitment being awful was on that guy. Then he came back here - first thing he does is cancel several arranged deals - doesn't work well with Thelwell and is a driving force in the new setup - and we are having major issues recruiting - obviously Hammond's to blame.

At a certain point 5 clubs all having major issues on recruitment is either massive bad luck for the same manager or alternatively maybe Moyes is the one common denominator...

Yes, been saying its down to Moyes all summer.

Who else signs the players we have other than Moyes?

Zero upside signings in terms of financials/PSR = Grealish, Travers, KDH, Ake, King.

With this signing where does Aznou get game time?

Kind of signing we need if he stays fit. Can cover left back and left sided centre back, both areas where we've struggled with injury. Means we could have a really strong back 3 of him, Branthwaite and Tarkowski or him, Tarkowski and O'Brien if Branthwaite is out. So basically gives us options.

Perhaps those deals were just easier to get over the line?

If you are counting Keane as a centre back, then you can't claim Coleman and Patterson don't exist.
And if (as it seems) you are counting Ake as both a CB and a LB, then we have to include JOB in the RB column too. So we have 3 RBs.

I agree the backline is not balanced and we really need an automatic first choice RB that is much better than the options currently available, but we don't need to make things up to justify it.

Moyes won't be involved in any of the negotiations, but he will (and absolutely should) have the major say in which players our recruitment team go after.

I think we just need to look at 3 things:

A: Have we strengthened the weaker areas of the 11? If not, then why?

B: Have we strengthened the strongest areas of the squad? If so, then why do they appear to be costly short-term signings?

C: Why are we apparently in talks with an injury prone 30 year old on a high wage in arguably our strongest area in the 11?

The amount of Da's on here questioning whether we "need" him, ignoring the fact he instantly becomes out best defender. WHAT DO YOU WANT?? 😂

Branthwaite is far and away better lad rather us buy a right back, never been a fan of centre halves playing fullback. Job has done a decent job there, but like Baines was far better than Lescott when he eventually got in the team. Fullbacks are an essential part of the attack as well as defence these days. Besides Ake's injury record isn't great anyway.

Those are three good questions. But none of us know the answers.

So my question is - why are some people making up their own answers and then becoming angry at their own made up answers?
