The race to write off youngsters

Side note, I’m still mystified what happened to him. He was a good player at Southampton, good for a month or two here, and then he must have had a lobotomy.
In over 50 years of supporting, I've not often been moved to standup in the middle of the Gwladys and completely lose it with any player.
But he used to boil my piss something chronic...

Everton fans in 1998: ‘Give the lad a few seasons, he’ll come good.’
Everton fans in 2025 after seeing a 30-second TikTok skills reel: ‘Why isn’t he prime Roberto Carlos yet?!’
It’s social media’s fault, patience now has a 15-second limit, right before the next cat video plays.”
I agree - particularly with the last part, even the crap my daughter sends me from her days out, activities etc are only 2/3 seconds long, I’m like “wtf am I supposed to do with this?”.

Like Bluesky has ignore lists you can employ, I wish GOT had similar. I'd give you mine but you seem like a sociable person. 😉
I'm on this forum far too much & post far too much.
Mind you, if I don't like someone's post one day it doesn't stop me 'liking' one from them the next day.
I have my favourites though & you're one of them, mainly due to the funny escalator clip. 🤣

Sorry gone of topic!

Yamal won a euros at 17

Are we forgetting that some young players are incredible and deserve to start over overrated older and more experienced players

Alexander Arnold made his senior debut for Liverpool at 18 and played in back to back champions league finals at 19 and 20

If your good enough your old enough

I’d rather start a 16 year old wonder kid then a 29 year old crab who has 400 games under his belt and only passes sideways
And a Rooney

And none of them are currently at Everton, sadly.

Ours will be the ones who develop more steadily, if at all. I think k if we had generational talent, we'd have heard by now.

Conversely, I remember holgate and Godfrey being touted as future England captains after about twenty minutes
That's the life cycle. Young player is "going to break into the first team next season", then they will be a "future international", then they're terrible and "not fit to wear the shirt", then they're "a rat" for moving to Sunderland/WBA/Brentford at the end of their contract on a free. Hakuna matata.
