Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Proper wingers will have a field day against Garner and O'Brien. Particularly if we give them as much time on the ball as we did against Leeds. We need a real solution quickly.

….we obviously need a RB, amazing that we’ve failed to acquire an effective long-term solution for that position. O’Brien has been decent, he played plenty there last season and I don’t remember anybody having a field day against him. A better RB allows O’Brien to cover CB or RB.

Not sure if both our LBs were injured for Leeds. If so, not much we could do about that, Garner played really well covering the role.

….somebody suggested Aznou is injured. I haven’t heard this officially but it makes sense given he was substituted after coming on against Roma.

Had Garner played in midfield and James given a free ride, Leeds might have been out of sight at half-time. As it was, Garner filled-in very well and nullified the threat of James.

I’m struggling to see what Moyes did wrong on this and why posters are so angry.
James is rubbish, let's not make out that he's a good player. Garner did fine against poor opposition. The worry is that we won't be facing that level of opposition every week.

It feels like he tinkered with about 5 positions in order to fill one. Dwight HAd played lb at prem level before, garner hadn’t . Tim was not the right man for his role either. Dwight could have come on the left, right or middle at any point as we were ineffective throughout. Instead, keeping alcaraz on too long

Moyes made a lot of poor decisions that night

….i’m not sure you recall McNeil at LB last season, he was like a statue and had to be moved further forward after 10mins. It surprised me how lost he was, a total liability. Maybe Moyes was aware of that, especially with James being a speed merchant.

O'brien can handle it. He wasnt roasted by anyone playing there last year. He even got forward in games. Still need a right back mind. Garner is an absolute no. For all the rightful praise he got we basically gave leeds that side of the pitch. He stopped james pretty well but it nullified any link up play of Everton being a danger themselves. I found it painful to watch.
Given the choices as it stands of now we might have to go 3 at the back and Garner as a wingback on the right and Mcneil on the left. Not ideal but we cant just surrender one side of the pitch again.
All of this because we've havent sorted out what we all knew was a problem.

Tbh, I don’t remember

It will be very interesting to see how we set up on Sunday -
I’d actually start Dwight with ndiaye and grealish

I agree.

As much as I think we generally don't suit a back 3 in about 70-80% of scenarios, with the benefit of hindsight we should've just done it on Monday night. Square pegs in square holes.

The team we fielded could've easily been closer to this and you wouldn't have had as many people questioning the logic behind it given the absentees: -

Pickford

O'Brien --- Keane --- Tarkowski

Garner
----------- Gana
KDH
Patterson
------------------------ Ndiaye
Grealish

Beto
That still would've then given us Barry (ST), Alcaraz (AM), McNeil (LWB), Iroegbunam & Armstrong (CM) as bench options.

….i’m not a James fan either but he was their most effective attacker last season.

Garner was MoM in our poll, so the switch worked, he’s also often criticised for his midfield performances.

I personally wouldn’t criticise Moyes for selecting Garner at LB but that’s my opinion, I’m actually surprised posters are questioning it but hey ho.

Tom King who was signed to enable Tyrer to go out on loan, actually appears to be behind Tyrer in the pecking order.
How? Because 3 days after signing he wasn’t put into the squad when our 2nd choice was already there?

Most likely given a few days to get himself sorted and moved up with his family.

We’re bad enough as it is without playing with 10 men
