2025/26 Beto

Well thought of in Italy , if our recruitment team had anything about them they would sell him and get two strikers in. Atalanta showed an interest last month.

Stinks of urine in here.

Everyone remembers we lost due to a dodgy handball? Yeah?

As we used to hear every week with Dom, he didn't get any service at all yesterday. Alcaraz, Iroegbunam, and KDH constantly coughing up the ball to nobody in a blue shirt is why we didn't get a single shot in the first half.

You can blame Beto all you want but it was 28 minutes before we managed a touch in the final third and that's not his fault despite how much you all miss DCL.
You've got to admit he was on a different wavelength to his team mates last night though Jake, always seemed to be making the opposite run to what was needed, not coming to when a short pass was on, not being in the mixer when the ball was put in there. Just had an off night didn't he?

You're still constantly talking about DCL by the way. Nobody else is.

Unless we are going to constantly play to his one and only strength he is of no use to us. Defenders aren't worried by him. For his size, he is more of a big baby that Emile Heskey was. He's also worse at heading the ball than Per Kroldrup.

If we aren't going to play to his one and only strength, just sell him. It doesn't matter if we don't replace him, if we continue to play the same way, as he isn't missed when he is picked so he won't be missed when he is sold.

All that's happening if we keeep him when we play like we do when he is picked is someone else is being denied the opportunity to do what he can't but only if we replace him.

Are we, perhaps, the only team who don't play to their strikers' strengths, more often than not, and we keep expecting them to be able to do something they can't? Isn't insanity doing the same things repeatedly and expecting different results?

He wasn't great, different wavelengths sure. It's him getting it in the neck and not the midfielders who I thought were atrocious yesterday. You only have to take a brief look to see who's page is having the most discussion.

Was Beto worse than any of those midfielders who were meant to be supplying him? No he wasn't for me.

I'm bringing up DCL because it's very noticeable that the exact same posters desperate to put a boot in to Beto have spent four seasons blaming Dyche, tactics, the service, and every other player before they dared level the same criticism at Dom's performances.

All of which were definitely factors (substitute Moyes miserable tactics for Dyche) affecting his performance last night but none of the same people will bring those up in his defence. There is a massive double standard behind a lot of the criticism Beto receives.

I don't see what you see regarding the DCL/Beto standards but I'm not eagle eyed over the threads like you are. We need Grealish/Ndaiye/Alcaraz in the 10 to link up with him and feed him. There's a lot of whataboutism in your posts regarding Beto, it's true to say our midfield performed poorly, but every time Beto got the ball he lost it, he managed a single one-two with Alcaraz in 90 minutes.

The guy can score, we need to play to his strengths, but he has to be more involved and be more available. Sometimes he was 40 yards away from a possible link up with the midfield, he just wasn't at the races.

Pretty much this.

1st half we barely got out of our own half. Hardly anything went near him to stick either.

2nd half his hold up play was poor but so was everything else around him. Every set piece (bar one), no crosses into the box, no attempts to play a through ball, KDH nowhere near him, no pace off him.

They looked like they'd not played together or had an idea on how to attack.

That was my thought too, and given the quality we have in midfield I'm hopeful of it coming together quickly. They just weren't on the same page last night.

When I saw the line up midfield/attack wise I honestly felt technically we're far superior to what Leeds have, we should at least be on the ball and control it.

10 mins in we've conceded 6 corners and had 38% possession at the end of the half. To me they all looked like they were hiding.

I thought Leeds did exactly what everyone expected, come out all guns blasting and played like it was their cup final, first game of the season back in the Premier League you'd expect exactly what they did, I thought we did well to weather the storm and second half they were there for the taking, we just couldn't step up.

I was telling me mate that despite how gash we were, if we fashioned one chance we'd score and get out.

We never did.

He wasn't good yesterday but I think a lot of that came down to the midfield service and tactics.

We created nothing. He had two touches in the opposition box. Some of that is down to his hold up play certainly but unless he's supposed to be megging everyone on the way to goal isn't the midfield expected to put some chances together aren't they?

They're both equally to blame for me, but I'm not concerned because we've brought in players that will play to Beto's strengths, they just need to get on the same page, but it'll happen.
