Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Yeah it is embarrassing what's happened to this fanbase. We've had a period of horrible management running the club into the ground, and it's turned us into a bunch of panic-stricken, cry-arsing babies.

You might think that anyone who disagrees with you is happy 'as long as we don't get relegated', but you would be wrong. Its not a binary where everything is either perfect or terrible. I'm not happy with the current squad, but i still have hope that we address it before the end of the window.

Internet is just a miserable place these days tbh. Everyone thinks they know everything. This forum and another non football related forum that I use feel like they're rapidly turning into twitter/reddit where it's just the loudest people with the most extreme opinions dominating conversation in every thread and boring everyone to death.

Your reply to Mike also contained exaggerations and assumptions about those who are complaining

This is the most annoying part of the cycle you guys go through every day. The “it will be fine” guys are so sensitive to negativity right now you don’t even see you are doing the same thing

One side assuming the worst based on…well, past Everton and on what they see as more evidence of us currently doing more Everton things, and the others being optimistic just because they choose to.

Let your fellow fans be miserable and pessimistic right now if it’s how they feel. We’ve been a mess for ages and everybody is still here. The new owners might be great but who the hell knows.

I wouldn’t trust Everton as far as I could throw them right now. Hopefully they’ll make me trust them again in the near future. Be amazing to see competency for a year or two. Starting with these next few days would be good.

I think we'll get Dibling by the end of the window unless another club enters the equation and overpays for him. Again we're being smart and showing clubs we'll not bow to their demands if we don't think it's the best financial deal. I prefer that to our previous strategy of shelling out silly money for bang average players like Bolasie and Tosun for example. Again you make it sound like we've not tried to buy a right winger when we've clearly shown interest in a fair few. Guess what good players are harder to buy and you inevitably have competition for their signature. Following your logic we should of just brought in someone like Fellows as it would of made us look 'active' even if he's not as good as the harder to sign targets on our shortlist

What you call “being smart” I call “being incredibly stupid”. Fascinated to see which one turns out to be correct in the end.

Let's copy them then ! Did they change their management group though or just keep sacking managers ? Careful what you wish for cos turmoil and this club are familiar dancing partners. Stability is what we need. Not a revolving door of managers and/or board members.
Accountability has nothing to do with wishes...does it now.

Let's say we had bought Fellows early doors, his quoted price in January was £8m but it was probably a little higher in June, let's say £10m. If we bought him for £10m then we wouldn't look so desperate for another RW (despite the fact we definitely need two) and clubs wouldn't have as much confidence in rinsing us on price. We might have even got our second winger in already. Or maybe not, but we would have been able to put out a RW last night and we wouldn't be at panic stations in the transfer market. A low price, decent, but not extraordinary, player at a good age doesn't sound like a terrible piece of business to me. Buying Fellows now is a terrible idea because WBA knows we're utterly desperate and they would ask for £20m, why wouldn't they.

Don't think it works like that Mike. Depends what you think our season should look like. I'm happy with a long term plan as the club has been crying out for it for years. No short-term ism is getting us to where we ultimately want to be which is challenging for the 'champions' league places

There is no doubt that the club should have performed better in this window so far, but people need to give their expectations a reality check. I’m sure some just though, wow new stadium, loads of players will want to join now.

All the stadium does is give more financial headroom to purchase players but it doesn’t make us any more attractive as a club to players who are aspirational and it certainly doesn’t mean the current people in power at the club are any more competent than the last people overseeing transfers. As a club, we should have identified more targets, now it looks like it will once again be a last minute dash which is poor.

Last night’s result also puts pressure on the players for the first home game to get that win. Given it’s Tuesday now with very little emanating from the club it is likely that there won’t be any new players in before Brighton.

Im amazed Thelwell wasn't kept. Even if they put this structure on below him. It feels to be like Kinnears arrogance wanted him to fulfill that role.
Thelwell wouldn't have stayed if they put this structure below him. Everyone in football is an ego maniac who always thinks theyre right. And to a point, they have to be that way.

The writing was on the wall for him once Moyes was appointed and performed

Mate, this is our problem. Thinking that Dwight McNeil is a sufficient back up for Mykolenko, who is crap anyway! Dwight McNiel isn't an adequate back up for anybody wanting to reach the top half. Both of our fullback positions require some bloody investment, and not some ridiculous 10 million pound purchase of an ultra crap 12 year old that was so crap that he couldn't even get a game for Rangers!

Who the hell thought "Hey, have you seen this ultra crap right back that can't even get a game for Rangers? Lets spend 10 million on him"?

It's ridiculous and infuriating tbh!
I agree with you. I was speaking specifically about last nights game.

To be fair Windy I agree that we should of bought Fellows especially at the original price as he would of been a squad option with years ahead of him at worst. However the fact no-one else has made a move for him kind of suggests he's not at the required level and Moyes evaluation of him is right (apparently he stopped us buying him after Thelwell identified him as a target)
