2025/26 David Moyes

The same 11 started the second half much better than first. One has to ask why it took till the break for that 11 to wake up and play

If i was to be bold, I would say the tactic was to let them come to us, hold firm and then let them tire.

It felt as if we had a more threatening second half, but then we still couldn't find second gear.

But it felt very much like we were waiting and then to hit them with Grealish.

Leave him alone, he's only had about 9 seasons in the Premier League to realise he's never going to lash one in from 25 yards.
Gana worked hard yesterday, many times push forward to press while the front 4 complete stop doing the pressure work.

At one point he was pressing like a right winger, a few times like a number 10.

No complain

He should be told in crystal clear terms that he's not to enter the final third of the pitch unless we're losing and it's the final minutes of the game.

I love the guy but he was crap yesterday and is a liability going forwards.

The whole narrative from Masters through to Sky pundits is how to stop promoted clubs being relegated straight back down again.

Moyes moans pre-match about refereeing in general before Everton have even kicked a ball.

A soft penalty is given to a promoted team and VAR does not intervene.

Moyes moans even more post-match about refereeing.
I don't think it's that, but I do think the refs have been told to inject drama into the dull games.

Our game was a terrible advert for the premier league. Villa-Newcastle was similar. Both had referee decisions as the main talking points.

If Dyche had been manager, the place would have been in meltdown.

Moyes got it totally wrong last night, and you can say that and still be "pro" Moyes.

No one is immune to criticism, and no one stepped up there yesterday, and we didn't have a plan B.
Plan A B C and D wernt available either through lack of depth or injury. Not sure what Moyes could do with make shift the back line. Pro Moyes would be finding excuses when there are no injuries in key posistions and can play the best that is available to him. Then he can take full blame for performances like last night...

Maybe this was an intentional move from Moyes to tell the board look at the team I had to play.

Yeah I know I’m dreaming

I said it, myself.

Its the only reason I can see Iroegbunam starting over Armstrong.

Might be far fetched, but when we've got a lad whos rock bottom in confidence starting, the full backs being a centre half and a central midfielder... but if it is right, lets hope we act.

Just under 2 weeks to get reinforcements in

I'm on the fence about apportioning blame for last night to Moyes.

Clearly he has been let down by the recruitment team. We need at least 4 more players , probably more.

Also unlucky that 2 of our back 4 were injured.

However ,he should have been brave enough to play Aznou ( was he injured?) , Grealish from the start ( appreciate that he hasn't played a pre season match but he is so much better than everyone else that you have to get him into the team to set the tone) and drop Beto who is clearly incapable of controlling the ball and bringing others into play.

In addition, tactically we were awful in the first half , inviting pressure and conceeding possession. Against City or the RS I'd get it but Leeds? Do me a favour

I think you could give the penalty or not. What I find difficult to understand is why you would make comments which run the risk of putting the backs up of an important element of the game before you have any reason to. We've seen enough debatable behaviour from referees to know that they are not the impartial decision-makers that Webb and the PL would like to paint them as. (Clattenburg, Coote, to name but a couple.)

It was like Moyes never left. Not playing until the second half, not bringing a striker on until we were losing, keeping our creativity / new players on the bench rather than build a team around them etc. Moyes lined up to play the title winning Leeds from the 90s rather than the premier League mainstays turning up and outplaying a promoted side.

It is going to be a long frustrating season with Moyes , as I asked many times over the years with him, what's the point in buying new players if he puts them on the bench? I'm sure Harrison would have got on before greilish if he was still at the club.

Plan B could have been not playing the ball round the back, and hoping for a flick on.

Yesterday, everything Leeds did was from our own errors.

We didnt need to persist with playing it out from the back.

We had zero shots in the first half, i am sorry, but I fail to see how a different approach was not utilised?
