Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Piroe, Nmecha both got goals last year.

But I'm not sure why so seem to be of the belief that we'll lose tonight.

I think it's a combination of a newly promoted team away in the first game is dangerous when it's going to be arguably when they're at their most up for it.

Mixed with the fact we year on year start seasons terribly and dont seem to wake up until late September.

Mixed with a justified sense - supported by our manager's comments - that we are simply not ready squad wise.

I don't think we're definitely getting beat tonight - and I think providing we make additions we can have a good season - but I can see why some aren't too optimistic tonight.

I wasn't flexing it?

.. and it's more a reflection on the bookies - not us as a side.
What does it say about the bookies? Other than that they believe we are less likely to beet Leeds than Leeds are to beat us and that they have taken more bets reflecting that. How can that not be a reflection on us?

Has anyone actually thought maybe Southampton just want a suitable replacement for Dibling before sorting the deal?

This is how normal clubs behave.

That little 10 minute cameo Saturday was them just applying some pressure, letting us think they're happy to reintegrate him.

A fully fit DCL would start over Beto and Barry. Whether he’ll ever be fully fit again is open to debate.

We’ve been chasing Longstaff for years - he’s a solid performer and in my opinion better than Garner and Iroegbunam.
neither of which get in our team when everyone is fit.

Beto scored 8 goals last year (in the equivalent of c17 starts).

DCL has scored more than that in a season twice in his entire career.

even if he was fit (which he never is), he’s not as effective as Beto has been last year.

Didn't Villa do the same thing recently with Philogene?

Knew they could sell him for more than the buy back - so bought back, knowing they can sell for more.

It's a part of the game that'll be exploited to the benefit of the teams at the top, again and again.
It's taking the mick.

Liverpool signed Doak from Celtic for £600k in 2022. Fast forward 3 years, and after making just 3 appearances, they are selling for £25 million.

Talk about the top 6 hoovering up the best young players. A £25 million book value for a player who has made 3 appearances. And after that, they've got the brass neck to add a buy-back clause (and Bournemouth are stupid enough to agree to it).

We literally haven't won a game in August in over 4 years, have had our usual dreadful pre-season, have lost our best player to injury and we have no right sided players. We will be playing a centre back and a left winger at right back and right wing tonight. Personally I think it will be a boring draw but I can totally see why people think we could lose this. That's without even mentioning Michael Keane, who when playing at Everton results in us averaging two goals conceded per match.

Whatever the result tonight it ought to help with transfers. If we get found out, (lose or draw) moyes will demand we get players in, if we win then he'll press for how one or two quality additions will make us a top 10 candidate.

Who plays in midfield in our first eleven if you think Garner doesn't? Gana, KDH and who?

I think Moyes has massively added to the sense of dread going into this first game, with his pre season comments.

Agreed. Still think we can have a very positive season - providing there are at least a couple of the right additions sharpish - but can entirely see why people are pessimistic about tonight.
