So we had a 20% sell on for Broadhead, Chelsea a 25% sell on for Hutchinson, so that seems to be the norm. Why is everyone up in arms about Southampton asking 20% sell on for their prized asset?

I understand what you’re saying mate, and I’m not suggesting otherwise.

My point is that there’s a whole world of players out there who can be scouted and signed for under £50 million. City, for example, managed to pick up a top player in his prime for less than that, and that’s despite the fact they usually pay over the odds in the transfer market.

What I find strange is that we’ve known since last summer that the right-hand side was going to be a problem. Yet here we are, two weeks before the deadline, chasing an unproven player from the English leagues who we realistically can’t afford.
The thing is, this is a different regime. Thelwell would probably have got us fellows, not knocking Thelwell because I thought he did a good job in difficult circumstances. But this summer is totally different summer, we’ve tried fur a few from abroad. The first RW we wanted went to juventus for 30mil
We bid 31 for forfana, we could probably get him for 35mil but he said no
Kubo is 60mil

So we unfortunately have been backed into a corner. We’ve just seen Hutchinson go for 37mil
Fatawu apparently Is going to be the same. I’ve been saying all summer to get good players this summer, we will probably have to over pay
We just have to get Dibling now we have no choice

Because that's how negotiations work. FFS. You don't just give up potentially millions because the other party demands it.

Sorry, old fashioned scouse slang meaning someone who is worthless in one way or another.
It is generally applied to someone who is large and has a propensity for violence.
When applied in football it is more likely ( though not exclusively) to be attached to a tough tackling centre back .
It isn’t really descriptive of a young , talented and skilful player such as Dibling .

As long as it’s 25% on any profit I don’t really mind.

In a way it’s a positive as it shows Southampton think he could be the real deal. If they didn’t value his potential they’d just try to get the maximum value for him now (though they’re kind of doing that as well).

Also given his age it’s probable that we‘ll sell him at some stage.

Let’s hope it’s in 10 years for 150mil to Real Madrid. And we’re selling because he has a dream to win a champions league with a foreign club, because winning them with Everton has become too easy!

Jack Harrison it is then .
That's not what that means. It means you're trying to agree multi million pound contracts between us the other club the players and their representatives. They'll go backwards and forwards loads. It's totally normal. It would be better to close it early but it's not always possible. Yes if you want to spend £10m over budget you might seal the deal but then you're over budget so you're in trouble. You don't just say yeah we will give you £30m, yeah that's cool, then give the player a bit of paper to sign. It can take months of back and forth and it's totally normal.
