Excuses, why?

I am not a happy clapper, I whinge, moan and boo as much as any other miserable knob in our fanbase. But I don't get the mindset of those on here who need to hate on the club because isn’t buying who they feel we should buy, at the price they feel we should be paying and at a timescale thay find acceptable. There are a hundred variables that affect any purchase, none of us know which ones are in play, so raging against the universe (and against fellow blues) is utterly pointless and ultimately self destructive. Go out, have a bevvy, get somebody to give you a nosh. You will find life far less stressful.

A lot of the uncertainty is dictated by budget, and exacerbated by PSR.

It's alright saying "just throw 50 million at that player", but what happens if that only leaves you with £15 million to get the next two in and then the parent clubs of those two won't accept less than £8 million a piece? Well, then you've got to try and get the £50 million player down to £49 million... Or go with a different strategy and sign different players.

I'm simplifying things there, because I know you'll get my point, but most fans don't even stop and consider these small margins that can make a big difference.

Why is admitting Everton are poor in literally every department an issue for some.

Is it because they enjoy the dopamine rush of a like on the internet by someone called GOAT gives them?

Is it because admitting Everton are poor would mean they might have to do something other than happy clap?

If they do that are they worried they will get called Kopites?

Is being bad a badge of honour that they can boast about?

I really need to understand the psychological reasoning behind the constant excuse making in our fanbase.
Literally every department??

I think we are well set Goalkeeper wise.

I think our centre Half's are pretty good.

I think our midfielders are more than serviceable.

Left wing is pretty much spot on.

We are certainly in better shape than we have been since 2020

A little context would help. There are people who are ā€œpositiveā€ now who two years ago were raging lunatics about Everton. Myself included. The hatred I had for Moshiri was intense. One of the worst owners in world sports history. Did more than enough to get us relegated and put us into a death spiral — we got very lucky.

Literally many of the people you think are too positive today were regularly accused of being too negative about Dyche and Mosh. So I don’t think it has anything to do with wanting to ā€œfit inā€ or not insult Everton because a few years ago it was all many of us did was complain about how bad Everton were in every department. You would have LOVED it here then I guess.

The difference in our current owners and manager compared with prior is extraordinary and one ā€œslowā€ (I genuinely don’t think it’s that slow) window won’t change that for many of us. In fact my perspective is that I can’t imagine how anyone who has followed Everton the last 5-10 years wouldn’t be neutral to happy with this window.

Then, and can’t recommend Big Lebowski enough with frames of reference, the perspective of many (expressed in this thread and others by many people) is that to get people in early we would either overpay or get someone under talented for the level we are looking to reach.

I don’t know why someone would sign with us over a CL club unless we massively overpaid or took someone CL clubs aren’t in for. I think our team did some great work on Grealish. We were not initially his first choice. They did good. More to come.

So the delays are to us a sign of ambition. A sign they know they are actually trying to level up. Because it’s hard, long, slow, gruelling work. The idea we could go from relegation spots to Europe and get all the players to do that wrapped up early doors just doesn’t make any logical sense to me. It feels like people want magic.

Some people say ā€œFootball Manager logicā€ but if you actually try signing top players for Everton without editing it’s absolutely impossible. Might be harder in the game than real life. Honestly a bit MORE Football Manager might help people understand reality … as funny as that might sound to people who want to use it as an insult.

Anyway. So there’s your answer. You may still disagree with us but I think understanding the actual perspective might help?
