Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Why are we not all over Rico Lewis for £30M??
A young England defender that plays RB but can also play LB.

Having heard the excuse brigade bang on about not just getting anyone in (they happily put up with the endless inferior temp full backs “while we wait”).

A top position specialist is actually on the market now and it’s just tumbleweed.
Notts Forest are seemingly going to nick him from us like a bunch of our other targets.

City aren't accepting £30m for him.

Plus he isn't that good.

Probs because he’s a good player but crap at full-back. Never ever gonna be one.

There have been higher priority positions for the last 5-6 years, to the point it is a permanent exploitable weakness and in out team.
Players have been bought, failed and sold to fix other problems.
Why is our permanent weakness here acceptable?
Ask Moyes. I personally think getting Dibling in is more important than a right back. I liked the link we had with Kellen Fisher of Norwich who would be more affordable than Rico Lewis. Another name to throw into the ring is Tariq Lamptey despite his injury problems I'd imagine we could tempt Brighton with a loan to buy kind of deal

Not saying this will happen but really hope this stupid PL experience mantra doesn't mean we don't consider any alternatives from abroad if we don't budge on Dibling. Just seems we're backing ourselves into a corner with that combo of approaches.

This exactly the issue with British managers like Moyes and Dyche. They’re obsessed with as it’s the safe option

Inappropriate Behaviour
Akliouche is not close to realistic I'm afraid. Unreal talent though

Probably not, though still at Monaco and dodgy links a few weeks ago so i added him in.

For me, i only want Dibling at RW.

Nor is Amad Diallo

Perhaps, but where does he regularly start for United in Amorims system? Right back?

Is that what you found on footy manager?

No, they are the ones your father dreams of being bummed by.

I think that when looking at the 11 we could put out pre-window.

Pickford
Mykolenko
Branthwaite
Tarkowski
O'Brien
Ndiaye
Gana
Garner
McNeil
Alcaraz
Beto

There are instantly two players that can be seen to be playing out of position.

RB: O'Brien
RW: McNeil

Whatever personal preferences you or I might have for certain players or areas to strengthen...

...we STILL have the same 2 players out of position.

If were meant to be 'rebuilding' a first team squad.

If were meant to be going into a successful new era with the new stadium and new ownership.

If were meant to have an elite negotiator (Hammond).

Why would we not have been in constant touch with City and Southampton from January onwards checking on Lewis and Dibling?

That is a long term right side that is built for attacking football.

Again sorry but i disagree.

We didnt 'need' Grealish. He's great to have of course but he wasnt filling a "glaring issue in the squad".

Left wing we have Ndiaye.
10 we have Alcaraz
McNeil to cover for both.

With KDH again its the same thing. If hes seen as a 10 (he's not one) then see above.

If hes seen as a left sided central midfielder we play Gana there.

These 2 signings have upgraded our positions of strength.

They havent improved our weaker areas.

Every team is only as good as its weakest link.

Completely agree with all this. Drives me mad that we’ve ultimately ended up doing our transfer window in reverse - starting by tackling low (and in some cases no) priority needs and now desperately racing against time to recruit our high priority ones.

Years after we messed up a window of opportunity by ending it with three number tens, no wingers and little pace in the team, it’s crazy that we might do it again. Moyesy now has a couple of weeks to prove all doubters wrong and sign the players our season actually depends on - a fast and goal scoring right winger who will stretch the opposition and give us an outlet on that side of the pitch, a natural right back who can be relied on, and a strong number six who’s not there to push up or chase, but to screen the defence and link the team together.

I really really hope he does it because it’s all on him. He desperately wanted to be the top guy in our transfer set up - and he got it. Deliver Dave!
