Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Why are we not all over Rico Lewis for £30M??
A young England defender that plays RB but can also play LB.

Having heard the excuse brigade bang on about not just getting anyone in (they happily put up with the endless inferior temp full backs “while we wait”).

A top position specialist is actually on the market now and it’s just tumbleweed.
Notts Forest are seemingly going to nick him from us like a bunch of our other targets.

When I've seen Lewis which admittedly hasn't been often he hasn't really looked all that great and if the Sportwashers are happy to let him go then that suggests to me he's not top level potential either

City fans I know think he’s rhubarb.

Been saying this all summer.

JOB has proven himself to be premier league standard and we've got two subs in Coleman and Patto. Regardless about whether they are a good enough or not, there are numbers there that there aren't elsewhere.

Starting RW and CDM cover first.

Depending what's left in the coiffeurs, maybe we look at RB or (more likely) CB thereafter.

But it's way down the pecking order for me, and has been since the window opened!

I think that when looking at the 11 we could put out pre-window.

Pickford
Mykolenko
Branthwaite
Tarkowski
O'Brien
Ndiaye
Gana
Garner
McNeil
Alcaraz
Beto

There are instantly two players that can be seen to be playing out of position.

RB: O'Brien
RW: McNeil

Whatever personal preferences you or I might have for certain players or areas to strengthen...

...we STILL have the same 2 players out of position.

Forest aren’t going to sign aright midfielder and right back in a day are they!

If were meant to be 'rebuilding' a first team squad.

If were meant to be going into a successful new era with the new stadium and new ownership.

If were meant to have an elite negotiator (Hammond).

Why would we not have been in constant touch with City and Southampton from January onwards checking on Lewis and Dibling?

That is a long term right side that is built for attacking football.

We've fixed the most glaring issues in the squad, which is striker, a world class winger/no.10, left back depth, and quality in centre midfield.

Next up is a RW, cover for Gana and lastly either a RB or CB (which I think we could live without if we had to).

We've had to conduct a lot of business, and we're almost there. There will be a shed load of movement in the market in these next few weeks, and that goes for the majority of premier league clubs, not just us

Don't see what the issue is personally

Again sorry but i disagree.

We didnt 'need' Grealish. He's great to have of course but he wasnt filling a "glaring issue in the squad".

Left wing we have Ndiaye.
10 we have Alcaraz
McNeil to cover for both.

With KDH again its the same thing. If hes seen as a 10 (he's not one) then see above.

If hes seen as a left sided central midfielder we play Gana there.

These 2 signings have upgraded our positions of strength.

They havent improved our weaker areas.

Every team is only as good as its weakest link.

Think the issue with buying anyone from City now is that they’re going to have low fee buy backs after what happened with Palmer.

The rumours are Liverpool are doing the same with Doak

If they turn out to be good players they are glorified loans.

Right so the party line is that 20 year old England full back Rico Lewis and his two PL titles, his Champions League title, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and World Club Championship winners medal, isn’t better than Patto, Coleman or O’Brien, because he just isn’t good enough?

Fair enough. I can’t wait to see who we get in that is better then.

Nah he's good enough obviously compared to what we have but he's expensive and as Moyes said in his press conference yesterday there are more priority positions to be spending that kind of money on. I think the fans need to be reminded we haven't got unlimited money here

There have been higher priority positions for the last 5-6 years, to the point it is a permanent exploitable weakness and in our team.
Players have been bought, failed and sold to fix other problems.
Why is our permanent weakness here acceptable?
