Bobbles latest podcast: It might happen, it might not.
He really hedged his bets he said the deal was precarious but also that there is optimism it gets done. The worrying thing he didn't mention a back up plan well he did it was Hutchinson who has gone elsewhere now.....

This reminds me of gana contract situation....was offered 1 year, and he said he wanted 2...we waited and waited in the hope that he changes his mind. At the end, we had to offer him what he wanted in the first place which we could have done sooner to save the uncertainty for weeks. Saints will not budge in their valuation as they dont need the money... We either pay what they want now or on deadline day, or he will stay at Southampton. I think we have pushed them enough at this stage, and the price today is very unlikely to change closer to deadline day.

Richarlison was two years older than Dibling when we bought him, and was coming off a season in which he had scored five goals for Watford and none after November. People were up in arms at that fee at the time, and then by about October it was a joke in his song.

The lesson from Richarlison is that sometimes you have to take the punt on a higher fee for a young attacking player if you really believe in his potential. We were right then, and I do think we'd be right again with Dibling.

You've kinda proved my point there though. The fee is of levels of a more developed player.

The issue for me is that I dont think we're at a stage to develop a £40mill 19 year old yet. We brought in Chermiti, JOB, Alcaraz for around £20mill a pop to develop them for example. Dibbling has to start and fans will demand performances from a player that would be, i think, our 3rd or 4th most expensive ever player

We're also not finding a diamond. Im surprised Chelsea or Spurs aren't all over him if so.

Swear down people will be crying out for McNeil to start half way through the season.

Not going to argue with the second point because I think that's a perfectly reasonable position to take, but I'm not sure Richarlison was a whole lot more developed when we bought him than Dibling is currently. And I guess we'll only find out if he actually does somehow make his way here to sign.

Despite all of the palaver with this, i still think this is the right winger we will end up with but it might go right till the end to get the price that suits Everton.

Its also the type of player for me. I like the lad, he looks very much like a Grealish clone. But if you look at Richy or even Gordon for example, they're both quick aggressive wide players.

We dont have that at the moment. If Dibbling does come in, you've got an attack full of silky ball plays but lack of aggression.

We should just offer a bigger sell on (on profit) to get it done - they obviously rate him, and if he's good we won't care and more incentive not to sell him.

Did think that Fatawu looked a good alternative for exactly that reason, but sounds like that was a non-starter too.

Some are talking as if we want another winger, which I'm not sure I believe/trust them to actually get done. But if they do, it's got to be someone in that mould you described, even if it's an older player on a loan or a real punt on a young and cheaper player.
