Still think we should assume this won't get done and ensure we get an alternative signed.

It would be beyond negligent to end up with nobody there.

Whatever they're being told by Soton, the best strategy is to actively pursue another target.
We haven’t a clue what’s going on behind the scenes , we can’t even be sure of the veracity of the reports.
Two weeks to iron out a deal is within the industry standard.
Would be rather silly to expend fees and wages on a player we don’t really need if we sign our main target.

I'd 100% agree, purely for the fact that we would still need another RW even after signing this lad. We have zero depth on the right, so we may as well use this time to find another RW. Then at least we can play that off to Southampton as a Dibling replacement, to try and get them into a more realistic price bracket.

Dibling... Id go with 45m upfront and 10% sell on.

Reading the details of the Macatee deal, you do wonder of its an elaborate loan plan. (thought we would be in for him) A west ham mate was telling me earlier that Lpool are trying to pull the same racket with Harvey Elliot, who Potter wants badly.

Yeah, I'd actually like to see the buy back option be banned - it's just simply now another thing stacked in the favour of the huge clubs. Allows them to do a Chelsea and stockpile young players sell them on and ensure when the ones who develop look good they can bring them back cheap

While I also find buyback clauses pretty abhorrent they are in practice rarely used or indeed able to be implemented.

The player cannot be forced to sign for any club as slavery is no longer a thing. Clubs can agree what they want but if the player says no . . . .

Any Muppet of a player who agreed to also sign such a clause (players never have) would have it annulled as restrictive and illegal.

But the this and other like threads wouldn't reach the number of pages they do if people didn't forget the basic rules of football players transfers.

@GrandOldTeam , can I get like a gold star or something next to my user name when this window slams shut ? My info has been spot on so far, no wind ups or anything, just pure intel shared with fellow passionate blues … think that should be reflected in a prominent place to be honest. Your members keep coming back to hear off genuine people like me. I’ve never once claimed Witsel is ours.
Thanks Boss

You might not get a gold star but you definitely are in the running for a smack of @Groucho ban hammer if Dibbling doesn’t sign

Who said you can’t have experience? You can but it has to be players like Tarkowski and Gana who cost you little. We absolutely don’t want to be signing high profile players. There’s no way we can make up the difference between us and the top 4 by adopting that strategy. Who’s done that and succeeded? We have to sign players with the right risk/ reward profile. That’s why I mentioned Anzhou and that why we shouldn’t be wasting money on Grealish. If we want to get back to winning the league that’s what we have to do in my opinion.
Time will tell with Grealish, I think that’s a signing we needed to make I think it’s a statement of intent and if he performs to his ability then it will benefit us. But it could just as easily go the other way I agree. I think agree there has to be a blend and the owners have to either find a way to balance investment with the rules or find a loophole to beat the rules.

I think they appear to certainly trying but again time will tell here, caution should be rule, we’ve been here before and the last guy nearly ruined us.

I’ll take progress this year whilst building through the transfer windows, I hope I’m right but I think Grealish will prove the doubters wrong, I hope anyway.

Exactly...If you take Fatawa as an example!!

Why are we not finding these signings, before a tin pot club like Leicester???

It's really frustrating, that our scouts, can't seem to do, what other mid table, or championship clubs do, & do it at ease!!

Then we & other premier league clubs are paying extortionate amounts of money to aquire these players!

...Here's a thought, poach the recruitment guy's from the championship, who are identifying these guys for cheap prices & see how we do?🤷‍♂️

Do this & our normal strategy & we're fighting on two fronts 🤷‍♂️?
We got a Mr Walsh from Leicester
How did that work out ?

Today is indeed a day.

Is it The day of the Dibling though...
I think with Forest and Brentford spalshing out on wingers the price is not set at 40m plus. If we want to sign him we need to up th emoney we are prepared to pay. I can see the market exploding too. We need a RW and RB.
