I guess the sell on clause would be set at what ever we get over a certain amount so we buy at 50 million and sell at 80 million but its only acted on after say 70million would that be how it would work ?

Benitez didn't help either, tbf. Obviously money was tight by that point, but booting Rodriguez and Digne so he could bring in Patterson, Rondon, Gray, Myko and Townsend was just shambolic. They're not all £ for £ bad signings like, but were they worth getting rid of arguably our 2 best players for? Gray was decent enough for the price, as was Townsend on a free, but we'd have done better if he just kept the team together and picked up a utility player who could cover midfield and full back and Townsend. Think we desperately needed a striker like, but with players like Jameththth and Digne in the team, with that era DCL and Richy then I don't think we'd have done any worse than we ultimately did had we just not bothered signing Gray, Rondon and Patterson. Finding it hard to criticise Myko tbh, as he's proving a very solid player and a smart buy at £11 million, but the feeling persists that we didn't actually need a new left back at that time. Certainly not at the expense of losing Digne.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing like, but it's a sad state of affairs when you realise Digne would still, even today, be our first choice left back.

That was his biggest mistake hiring Benitez and deserves pelters for it. Ultimately as we built the stadium we would have still gone down and down until it was finally ready to move into.
