Travel thread 3.0

Was a few Aussies in potato head. You are correct on the women. "Crim yanks".

Excited for Borneo. Back here for 3 nights after, then off to Singapore for 3 days.

I've enjoyed it. Not sure id travel all the way again though. It's not quite as cheap as I thought (still cheap).

I could just go back to Mexico for the vegetation etc. And that was just as cheap.

Although you have the yanks there

Rather yanks than Australians.

For Asia, two rules to live by:

A: If you want beaches = Philippines
B: If you want a city = Tokyo & Bangkok

Seminyak is still full of Aussies, just a different type, so you don't notice them as much. Also in kuta most of the market owners come down from Java whereas Seminyak ones are usually from Bali. There is a difference.

Not sure about his stray dog comment, there are a few but nothing worth noting and I've never seen them bother anyone.

Yep, 100,00 rupiah is a decent tip, they don't work for tips, but they do appreciate them.

Where in Borneo are you off to?

Do a simple google search

"Stray dogs Bali"

Theyre everywhere and have been everywhere there for at least 15 years. Impossible to miss.

They used to kill a lot of them but more sprout up in their place. A rabies risk.

Thanks, but I don't need to do a google search, I've been to Bali over a dozen times (and am going again on Thursday)

Yes, there are some stray dogs, but they are definitely not "everywhere" They are so used to humans that they are actually quite friendly, I have patted quite a few of them. Getting fleas is a bigger risk than getting rabies

….my daughter went with a few pals for her 40th and they loved Dubrovnik. It was Yugoslavia when I visited in 70s
all 7 of the current independent states have their own unique heritage and charm, its a very very interesting and exceptionally beautiful part of the world to visit, I love its deep rooted history, direct, open and welcoming nature of its people

Landed in Lisbon a few hours ago. Family holiday, 7 of us travelling. My daughter needed loads of stuff for our 1yr old grandson, so booked her a checked in case.

We’ll go BA coz they let you bring a baby car seat free of charge, said I.

Landed in Lisbon, no carry on case, no car seat. Both checked in at different locations at Heathrow terminal 5.

Yeah, the case and the baby seat never made it on the plane unfortunately. The flight was totally chokka and we just couldn’t fit them on. It deffo wasn’t, empty seats all over.

The good new is that we’ve found the car seat and we’ll deliver it to your accommodation tomorrow. Great, but I’ve had to hire a car seat, to get the baby to our accommodation tonight and paid for the whole fortnight as I’m not to know when you might think it ok to get it to us. Yeah but you can now cancel the rest of the hire. No I can’t, we’re 2 hours away from the airport and I now have to fit 2 car seats in a jam packed boot for the return journey.

Where’s my checked in suitcase, with all the baby gear ? Rest assured, it will be on it’s way to you, just as soon as we find it.

BA are the kopites of aviation, avoid !

You picked a good day to arrive at least. Been 37 degrees the past few days.

The centre will be packed right now. Get the train or uber to Belém to get a bit space and have a drink on the river.
There’s been a bit of a surge in pickpockets btw. It’s generally a very safe city but watch yourselves round tourist areas and landmarks.

Went to Chicago as part of the pre-season tour the other week. What a great city, lovely Riverwalk area with loads of bars and restaurants, nice pier area which has free fireworks displays every Wednesday and Saturday and lots of food options, lots of great shopping and was very clean in the centre. Lots of public parks and green space everywhere. Easy to get around using the 'L' subway. The locals seemed very friendly in general also. We did a great boat trip which goes down the Chicago River then you come to a lock which opens and the boat goes onto Lake Michigan for great views of the skyline. Very impressed, would definitely return at some point.

We’re staying on the coast, in Sao Marthino do Porto, about an hour’s drive north of Lisbon. All very chilled and laid back, on the Atlantic so always a constant sea breeze.

We were (I was) planning on day trips to Lisbon, but everyone seems to be buying into the chill-out vibe. I suspect that I’ll be outvoted by the beach combing tribe of hippys they’ve suddenly become.

Peniche is nice for a day trip. Ericeira if you have a car. Nice road trip down to cascais. The waves round there can be mad.
