2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

Its the year 2025. At the start of the new premier league season.

And Michael Keane will be starting...

Surely not though because I got told repeatedly he was 4th choice which means three people need to get injured for him to play. Oh wait there’s two centre back positions and our third choice is our starting right back which means Keane is actually first reserve CB? Who could have seen that happening.

He is 4th choice (or would be if we had a bloody right back). Literally nobody thought that meant 3 players would have to get injured for him to start.

This is karma for the forum neanderthals who hounded out Ashley Young, leaving O'Brien as our only reliable option at right back.

Well we don’t have a right back so he was always effectively third choice which in a option where 2 play at once means you’re one injury from playing which has now happened, which I said all along would happen, but loads kept on saying he wouldn’t play much because he’s fourth choice. A completely stupid semantic argument.

We all thought we'd have a right back by now though. I mean literally the first deal we tried to get over the line (excluding Alcaraz) was a RB. Was that like 2 months ago now? Mad that we've not got one in yet.

Anyway, on Keane, I think a lot of us were saying that anybody brought in to replace him would be about the same level as him, seeing as our first choice centre backs are our de facto captain, and the very talented, and now highly paid, Branthwaite. Anybody signed would have been under no illusion they were playing second fiddle.

Also, if we wouldn't have already let so many players go, then I don't think we'd have kept him. Sometimes you've just got to try and negate too many changes in a short space of time.

I think Moyes played O'Brien CB last season before Keane came in, highlighting that he'd indeed be 4th choice provided we had rb cover, we're now, numbers wise, worse off in the rb department.

He's an enigma Keane, and some managers have got a tune out of him at times. He seemed to do alright under Moyes. If Moyes can at least drag his best Everton form out of him, then he'll do alright. Can't say I'm massively confident he will like, but I wouldn't say it's beyond the realms either. He's at an age where he should be able to show his best form.

One saving grace is Leeds aren't really pacey. But Brighton now terrifies me.

Should be looking forward to the first game at the new stadium, under new owners, with new signings and a new manager and instead we’re in the Michael Keane thread talking about him starting PL games in 2025 for Everton. New era indeed
