@GrandOldTeam I guess what always makes me frustrated is that there isn't a separate transfer thread solely for transfer story embeds or links without the additional commentary, so if you're looking to keep apprised of transfer news you don't have to shift through 50 pages for actual info. Is it possible to start a separate one just for transfers rumor embeds and no comments? If not no worries

It's a good point, and something I consider a fair bit.

Crux of it though mate, is always remembering what we are. We're a forum, for opinion and discussion. That's always got to be central.

I get there's some who'll want to dip in and out, but what exactly for?

Is it confirmation? We have thread prefixes. When players sign, usually within seconds it's updated. We have a front page for Everton news. It should be more active, but we struggle for writers.

Is it just key updates, how do we decide what those are? How do we segment that?

There's features we can buy for the site like threadmarks;
Tagging specific posts in a thread so they can be easily navigated to.

This is useful for long threads discussing a topic over a lengthy period of time and many pages. A threadmark allows a user to quickly jump to a specific post which is related to a certain event, date, or whatever is relevant to the thread.

Optionally this allows building an 'index' of posts and allows easy next/previous navigation between marked posts. A threadmark index can then be attached to a threadmark list for additional information and statuses.

^ I've considered the above for goals etc in match threads.

And thread highlights - which serve to make posts within threads considered important more noticable.

As for a seperate thread with just rumour embeds -Man Utd's version of GOT has something like that, called Transfer Tweets. It just pulls in embeds of Tweets, would something like that be worthwhile? Would people use that? I could take a look, but i think the API access for X/Twitter now is a big chunk of cash...

@Curtis Moved this from the fume thread, to here.

I'm thinking a single, seperate thread, with the latest news automatically posted in there by automation, which doesn't allow replies could be a good thing for us to test.
Generally it could improve the quality for anyone who is trying to keep up with what is actually going on. But if it is filled with random click-boys trying to get more views or monetise their AI rewording of other people's tweets, then it is probably not going to work as well as you'd hope.

No doubt, less will be more.

If it's too busy, it'll miss the point anyway.

Along this line of thinking, a top postings page? Like recent posts but for recent engagement? But also, yes thread highlights would be nice. I don't know if eggs still does the transfer summary, but would be nice to read all of these in one go without having to browse pages and pages sometimes. But like you say, it's a forum, and can't be all things to all people. I'll be off now, back to browsing the Ale House.

I’ve been telling him this and he just fobs me off or insults me. But when someone else does it oh he will accept it. Two tier forum.

The transfer thread has been hijacked by the usual few on both sides of some hypothetical debate (it’s great isn’t it) and churn up 70 pages a day desperate to be right.

I’d thread ban a load for a few days and see if it alters the course of the thread. Turning it into a transfer resource that attracts new posters.

Wondering if having a section like the below could work;

... early days, currently pulls in from;

Tweets filtered by keyword "Everton" - including Boyland, Joyce, Ornstein, Hunter, Bobble and Romano.
+ Google News Feed, filtered by blacklisting terrible sources, so would be ongoing process for a spell.

The only thing is its keyword heavy really, so if a top source says Leeds are signing former Everton striker Calvert-Lewin, then it'll show. Its not really massively relevant.
