Some of the commentary in this thread regarding the status of Southampton and Everton football clubs is embarrassing. What's worse is that some of the posters denigrating Southampton are the very same people who were outraged by Man Utd's fans giving it the big one this time last year. Southampton have a player under contract and have a valuation for that player, they are quite entitled to take that stance and if we have a different (lower) valuation then Southampton should politely tell us to do one. They don't have to sell us a player at our valuation and if we can't negotiate a compromise then that's just how it goes.

When, and it is definitely a when, some club tries to bully us into selling Branthwaite or Ndiaye or whoever our next breakout player is and that club's fans are belittling our club the hypocrites in this thread will have suddenly had a change of heart on what is and isn't acceptable behaviour.

So, and correct me if I'm wrong, you're saying we should ask him to refuse to play to force a move to us?

I think I'm with you. Tinpot club and city that hasn't been relevant since the Titanic.

Loads of posters have effectively said he should go on strike already!

I don't think any club is better than any other club (with the obvious exception of the RS, who are worse than every other club). I think my main irritation is the idea that one club should effectively have to sell a player to another club, on the buying club's terms, because of some imaginary hierarchy. We don't like it when fans of other clubs talk that nonsense about our players in that context and I don't like it when our fans do it about other clubs and their players.

I know, it's frustrating, but it's not an imaginary hierarchy. It's one which the clubs who are in it, work hard to maintain, both in their marketing, media management and lobbying of governance.

Look at Newcastle - richest owners in the world, just won a trophy and playing CL football, but still considered a feeder club.

It's dog eat dog.

It’s interesting watching Villa and Newcastle trying to transition and break the ceiling mate.

One of my annoyances in recent years has is both have come and taken two of our better young players in recent years - speaking of hierarchies. Also Spurs.

We need to learn from Villas and Newcastles struggles of cracking the glass ceiling and have a solution - if that’s our ambition. But we need to aim to match them first and get back to their level.
