He could also play a year in the championship bring home less goals or asists then Tom Fellows and where does that leave them. Remember Sadio Berhino - never got his move to Spurs after a big bid and his career never recovered.

Could also do his ACL in the first game, then they have a player next summer, with a year left on their deal with ? over fitness.

There isnt much insulation in Southamptons position in terms of risk to be as bullish as they are being in my opinion mate.

He could also have a breakout season and get into double figures for goals and assists and help get them promoted.

I still think this happens but I honestly don't think we're that worried about the depreciating asset.

Promotion is much more likely with him in the team than not and that earns us much more than we'd lose in fee this summer to next.

He'll have a lot more suitors next summer too which means the price won't drop as much as it normally would as they'll have to outbid each other.

In that respect it's arguably more important for you lot that it's done this summer as he'll likely have better offers next.

Let us know how that works out for you mate! ;)

Your promotion is certainly not guaranteed, with or without him. And with only one year left on his contract you won't be able to command as high a price as now, unless maybe he knocks the lights out (in the Championship... :coffee:).

A bird in the hand and all that...

While others have said time is on both teams sides, Surely Soton need to get the cash in the door and spend some if their promotion chase is to be viable? No good selling your star player on the last day of the window then having the money sit until January.
Yeah I think it'll get done in the next week personally, we won't want it going up to deadline day.

I don't think you lot would wait around that long either though.

Yeah never any guarantees of course but I think it'd be far more likely with him than without. There's no guarantees that any replacement/s would be good enough either.

Very few guarantees in football and gambles are always bigger when it comes to young players on all sides.

Welcome to the site, do you reckon he's all that mate ? That he's worth what you're teams holding out for, what is it £45m plus add ons ?

Slightly amused that a group of Everton fans know more about the inner dynamics of a south coast club than their fans, or the local press, or the players family.

Dibbles will come here after a slight give on both sides, it's negotiation not a playground scrap.

If he were not to then Saints lose some £ (possibly) if they sell in Jan or next season. They also stand a better chance of promotion (Dibling is not pushing for a move apparently, but unsettled as he doesn't know where he'll be living/working next month).

Saints could do with one further sale to fund new player(s) and balance the books but as they have a 40% wage cut implemented by a relegation clause on most of their squad not that desperate.

So then has a year left on his contract, sits on it, has a year in the PL anyway and picks his next club on a free.

Not great for Southampton.

Calculated risk for them, could also sign a new contract with a release clause for them.

What is promotion worth these days, just over 200 million??

Get promoted and sell next summer for 30 million would be a fantastic outcome for them.

He's by far our most talented youngster since Bale. Not quite the finished article but should he realise his potential he's going right to the very top.

I think it's a huge risk for you at that price personally and could see why you wouldn't be keen but if he progresses as expected he'll be worth £100m+ in 2-3 years.

Obviously biased but I think a year in the championship would be good for him to help him get used to the physicality of the game like Grealish at Villa. But realistically he'll probably move on and I thjnk the level you're at now would be a good move for him.

How likely is that with him not even being considered for the squad at the moment and being unhappy mate - I’d suggest we saw this with Gnonto and Leeds year one, was late in the autumn when he settled down again and they werent promoted that year.

You are right, there is an element of risk management to all of this. So that’s where decision making comes into play.

He could enable promotion or not.

Or his sale could enable it or not.

Equally we could be signing the next Rooney or we could be signing Simon Davies 2.

Any and every decision is taking on a measure of risk for both clubs.

Southampton in my opinion have already decided to sell him, or else there would be no talks.

We actually changed strategy after the Fofana bid - to focussing on deals that the selling club and player also were interested in and could be done if all were in agreement.
