The deal is not dead but Saints cant have all the cake and eat it. We would probably be willing to go to 40m but not with a 25% sell on clause. Saints want a bidding war but i dont see that happening TBH. A lot of clubs like Villa have PSR issues and the Sly 6 have not went in for him. Other clubs like Brighton and Bournemouth wont enter at the prices quoted. I think we can play the long game here or we will move on.

Its brinkmanshop mate and the posititions are as i describe above. Both teams are using time as a leverage - Southampton to flush out other interest and to make us blink as they know we need a right winger.

We know they will have an objective of wanting to get back in to the PL, £37 mill is huge enabler to that, if that's our max value our position will be they come back to the table or we move on after a deadline. Maybe go back in Jan. This is also hurting Southampton right now - with him not in their team.

Southampton will be aware of other clubs interest - enquires etc. I think if another club comes in - we walk away.

This may go on until someone bends, another club emerges with a bid or we pass a deadline.

My own take is - unless another club comes in - i think this gets done - its cutting of your nose to spite your face otherwise and youd hope these are all professionals. I dont think Southampton come to the table at all unless a deal was done to be done here.

They don't have to move their valuation, its entirely up to them. The player is under contract so they can keep him if they want.

There are two slight differences though with Branthwaite. First is that his valuation was always very likely to increase as he would be playing top flight football. Its much less likely a players valuation will go up from its current value playing championship football.

I am also pretty sure Branthwaite had a year more on his contract last summer than Dibling does now.

I think they will try to keep the player but it's a more difficult situation for Southampton to manage than we had. It's just easier to keep players when you have Premier league football
Branthwaite also 4 years older and far more PL proven, and on the cusp of the England squad. It's funny, if you look at the Saints' boards over the last 24 hours, they are fuming that Everton have agreed to a £50m buy option on Grealish next year when their man is 'easily worth more on potential'.

There's massive potential for sure, and I hope we do get him eventually, but there's also massive risk at any price above say £40m when he's only 18. The potential premium and the risk premium offset eachother to a certain extent.

Interested to see what value they put fernandes at aswell who is linked to west ham. What it does to the deal to dibbling to us

Totally agree. If no one else comes in soon then they will come back to the table or they get spooked if we agree a deal somewhere else. They cant afford to have a depreciating asset on their books in the championship.

Branthwaite has a release clause in his new deal.

Thats an acknowledgement by everyone, that at some point someone higher in the food chain is going to come in for him and we wont stand in his way if he wants to go. What we've done is acknowledged the players ambition, protected our position in terms of fee and compromised to get another season maybe more out of him.

What Southampton are doing is making a player very unhappy and disloyal.

There is a world of difference in the management of of Branthwaite and Dibling here.

He could also play a year in the championship bring home less goals or asists then Tom Fellows and where does that leave them. Remember Sadio Berhino - never got his move to Spurs after a big bid and his career never recovered.

Could also do his ACL in the first game, then they have a player next summer, with a year left on their deal with ? over fitness.

There isnt much insulation in Southamptons position in terms of risk to be as bullish as they are being in my opinion mate.

I'm not inclined to wait and risk we end up with nobody.

You would think they will sell but that's not guaranteed. My concern would be that we end up waiting for nothing and lose out on a viable alternative in the meantime.

Either way it's Soton that would have to climb down. That can be done and they can swallow it but at the moment there is no deal. I think it's a deal that has to happen this week but there is no sign of it. Things can change in an instant but time to move on and ensure the squad is strengthened.

I think thats the jeopardy mate - who blinks.

If it was me - im working on a different deal this week and setting a deadline with Southampton for this weekend. Both clubs have a deadline with this to be honest.

I think they could come back with a more reasonable demand on top of the £37 mill, then we may have a decision to make.

Im not worried though, we will get a right winger - 100% - if we dont get Dibling this window, then i also think we have the resources to go get him in Jan as well if we want to. This is a different Everton.

Time to move on for me

I still think this happens but I honestly don't think we're that worried about the depreciating asset.

Promotion is much more likely with him in the team than not and that earns us much more than we'd lose in fee this summer to next.

He'll have a lot more suitors next summer too which means the price won't drop as much as it normally would as they'll have to outbid each other.

In that respect it's arguably more important for you lot that it's done this summer as he'll likely have better offers next.

While others have said time is on both teams sides, Surely Soton need to get the cash in the door and spend some if their promotion chase is to be viable? No good selling your star player on the last day of the window then having the money sit until January.
