Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The mood music isn’t great

Apparently it’s well known that Southampton need to sell to refresh their squad. It was discussed at quite some length on either the radio or during their game today (I can’t recall which). I was quite surprised given parachute payments etc but the talk was that they e only made a couple of signings but will need more, with the money coming from the Dibling sale.

So what is the preference of all of you whiners? Would you prefer we overpay (risking less money for future and PSR) or that we take less talented players with easier deals? I’ve heard a LOT of your whining but haven’t heard which option between those two you prefer? Because in reality it’s one of those if you want someone NOW.

Of course I know you prefer the magic option. That we get all the best players to sign with us (they don’t care about waiting for CL teams) and it’s all wrapped up super early. Like magic!
There's a third option, properly scouting someone who would jump at the chance...

The horrors of recent season have only been survived due to the hope that “everything will be amazing when we get in BMD.” Well, we are in. Buy some better footballers. Barry, Anzou and any other youngsters we bring in should pay off in time. Barry may be fairly quick to overtake Beto. But as of today, we have only made one signing that makes the starting 11 definitively better in KDH. Not enough.

Pre-season is done. Grand (ish) opening of the stadium is done. Crack on now and bring in better players than we have, quickly. As many as we can afford or loan.

It’s sad how every year Everton are happy to sacrifice the opening fixtures of the PL by not recruiting early enough.

From what I’ve seen so far in pre season, we are going to struggle again in 2025/26.

I hope the club can get another 2-3 key signings in this week but I doubt it.
Psssst: We’re not “happy” to do anything of the sort. Even if you disregard highly imperfect transfer market conditions and put the delay in incomings solely down to poor planning and incompetence, any poor start that is seen as a result of a lack of incomings (though it shouldn’t be because our projected starting XI for Leeds is far stronger than our starting XI from game 1 of last season) is a consequence and not something done intentionally to make anybody “happy.”

Also: There is no discernible correlation between performances in preseason and final league position.

Also: Yeah, no I agree with you on that last one.

I'd 100% be starting the season with Beto up front as it stands. Not because I think he's great, but because we've somehow spent £30m on one-for-the-future Barry who looks nowhere near ready.

We can still navigate the opening games with a strong XI—we just can't afford further injuries. Right now we'll definitely have a passenger at left back, whether that's Coleman (finished, out of position) or Aznou (not ready and rushed in).

The recruitment team needs to be working 24/7 this week to improve the squad.
