2024/25 James Garner

He's a good squad player but not a starter for me....he had the opportunity to get a few first time crosses in but cut back every time and gave possession away...his first instinct is to go back and play safe instead of taking a chance unfortunately.

I find him all just a bit meh. He doesnt impact a game. He's got 1 goal and two assists in the last two seasons. Does the rest of his game warrant starting? Im open to offers on this one as to why he gets a regular start. Am i missing something regards him.

I’m a fan of Jimmy G but I do think if we get another CM he’s better served as a back up that can help see out a game rather than a regular starter

Because in previous seasons when he doesn’t play the results tend to be terrible. Mangala got a lot of credit for seemingly not doing very much but when Garner came back in the results improved (other factors contributing or course). Similarly under Dyche in 23/24 the runs of games when we got good results Garner partnered Onana at first and then Gueye for the second spell.

He’d a limited player but he does the positional basics in and out of possession that a lot of other Everton midfielders over the last few years have failed to do.

He needs to make a position his own...
Otherwise he will be the new Phil Neville....(not a bad player to have) but nothing special....Garner has still got time to do this! In my opinion....
Defensive midfielder is his best position !

I rate him. He busts his arse out there. Though not the same level, he reminds me of Gana. They’re both constantly doing the dirty grunt work and occasionally feature in a goal. But take them out and their absence is palpable.

There’s nothing to educate about. It’s all opinion really isn’t it. I think he’s a great all rounder 7/10 every week.

All rounder how? What specifically does he do that makes him a 7/10 every week?

For me, he’s the same as Jack Harrison was, a player who tries hard but doesn’t bring much in terms of quality or output.
