Exactly. Footballers at this level are just really really expensive. I don’t think a 12m cost for one year of Grealish is at all disproportionate.

Its not even scandalous by our own poor standards mate.

KDH i imagine is prob costing something like 10 mill a year min, wages and amortisation.

The other thing is a loan deleverages the risk, say he comes, doesn't recover his form, gets injured, doesn't work out - we're only on the hook for his cost for a year as opposed to five years of Gomes or Mina.

Whatever they are doing it shouldn't have taken this long into the window to do.
Ask the question and see what it would take to get this deal done.
If acceptable then do it, otherwise move on to other targets.

You ask how much a club wants, they tell you a figure more than they'd actually accept. You counter. On it goes.

Then you mix the player's thoughts, offers from other clubs that may or may not arrive, and in this case the complexities of who pays what.

On top of that, you have multiple targets for which you're doing the same, with all their own complexities mixed in.

Timing, pricing, relationships, preferences. There's so much more to it than saying "how much?"

Everyone seems to assume transfer negotiations are the easiest things in the world, but they seem like an absolute nightmare to me.

I read that as operating within sporting integrity.

I remember Man City used to be a proper football club, now it’s the football club equivalent of witting in a Bupa waiting room, cold, clinical, soulless and you’re only there because you have a few bob.

Think what’s worse then having no success is having no credit for the success when it comes, as it’s contrived and artificial.
All top level football is contrived and artificial, particularly top 6 PL clubs.

And yes we're are only where we are because we have a few bob.

But I've followed us from the mid 70's through all our ups and downs farcical tenures of Peter Swales and Franny Lee being chairmen when we were a whisker away from being declared bankrupt, I've seen it all.

But since we were formed in 2008 and become "soulless" we soon became successful, and although I miss our Maine Road day of being [Poor language removed] and a laughing stock I've seen City win trophies I thought I'd never see.

The game is all about money, and you Evertonions may realise it one day when you're sat their in your shiny new soulless stadium.

I wish Everton future success BTW.

Taking each deal in isolation

Is the player interested in joining?
How much would it take to make it happen?
Make a decision.

Absolutely scandalous that in the 'new era' they're making the fans go through nonsense like this again.

Calling other fans “bitter and jealous” just makes you look a bit of a dick mate, but I’m sure it’s the norm for people like you these days.

Lots of Man City supporting mates, I used to go to games with them in the 80’s. I’ve seen you lot play up at Carlisle in the 3rd division as it was then.

Remember where you come from and don’t condescend others, it’s not a good look.
I stand by what I said of other clubs fans being bitter and jealous whether I come across as being a dick or not, I'm not arsed and I'm not trying to be condescending. And I haven't forgot where we've come from btw😉
