We paid £25 million for Gbamin for 8 games and got nothing back for him.£12M for a loan is ridiculous

I’m not sure it’s so ridiculous really if it’s a total cost.£12M for a loan is ridiculous
Still don't care mate. TFG are clearly nothing like Moshiri and Grealish is a quality player.Yeah we’ve tried this way of working before. I won’t remind you how it ended.
Exactly.I like this framing in terms of roi or return on investment
each place is usually about 3m. so if his loan fee is 10-12m he needs to at least take us from 13th to 9th (breakeven)
still sounds expensive but this is just one part of the discussion,
Grealish would sell more shirts and tickets, bring more eyeballs for our sexy new brand of football
It's a 'premium loan', though. That makes it fine.£12M for a loan is ridiculous
BIzarre how you could come to that conclusion. Midfielders/wingers weren't judged on goals scored so much back then. This is brilliantly barmy.
Are you saying in this era Zidane and Figo would be considered duffers?
I’m not sure it’s so ridiculous really if it’s a total cost.
The per annum cost (fee plus wages) for all PL players is really high.
Just using loan player examples, Harrison was costing 5m a year, Lindstrom was a 3m loan fee plus probably the same in wages.
Does Grealish justify twice as much as Harrison or Lindstrom? I’d say yes. Or looking at it another way, you roll two poor players into one top class player for only marginally more cost.
Yeah we’ve tried this way of working before. I won’t remind you how it ended.
Yes, one of the key success factors of this summer will be the signing who elevates us and makes us more attractive in the future to others. Call it the "statement" signing or the glamour signing, but it is a prerequisite to improvement.Exactly.
Even if it ends up costing us 7/8m - the perception changes towards us. Players who are just below that elite level with the potential to break it will give more weight to joining us and that’s where we will kick on.
People forget in the last couple of years we have had players turn us down for Bournemouth and Southampton.

If we sign plodders and "good pros" exclusively, then that's who we will attract in the future. That won't take us too far.
In some ways, Grealish for one year is less of a gamble than Dibling. Grealish is a proven player. We know his attributes and faults. Dibling is a bit of a black box. Unproven. Dibling might prove inspired, but I don't see his signing as a catalyst in the way a Grealish type would be.
I'm not a huge fan of Grealish, by the way. But we do need a player of his level for eyeballs and to change perspectives. We think we are one of the great clubs - and our history says we are. But we are living purely in the last these past 35 years. We have achieved next to nothing in that time and been about as glamorous as a Hilda Ogden hair curler.
Showing my age with that one. But then, so are Everton...
Exactly. Footballers at this level are just really really expensive. I don’t think a 12m cost for one year of Grealish is at all disproportionate.Andre Gomes annual cost to the club was £11mill.
Yerry Mina was just shy of £14mill annually.
Iwobi wasn't far off either.
Wages and amortisation.
It's a lot but Grealish is a player who changes a lot of perceptions about Everton and in a very good way.£12M for a loan is ridiculous
