That smashes almost everyone's wage structure, which is hardly worth the disharmony for a year.

To be fully compensated for the loss of his services therefore someone would need to pay them a rental fee in excess of £32m.

They’ve got two hopes of that, so really it’s just a protracted auction to see what the most they can get out of anyone is.

Depends how you look at it really. 300k x 46 weeks is 13.8m. If we were told 7m loan fee and 150k per week no one would be batting an eye given the price they bought him for. Even if we do it for two years cost us 28m. For an England international who would improve our attacking output dramatically 28m is not a lot these days.

It’s a bit of a poker game, what with other teams allegedly keeping tabs. That bit could just be fluff put out by his agent and/or City of course.

Hopefully we’ve got the financial leeway to stay in the hunt. Would be an exciting signing to close out the window with.

I very much doubt we will pay his full wage, no matter who reports it. I stick to what's been said for a while. If he comes, it will be a late deal. but in the meantime, there's always the chance someone else goes for him
