If his name was Thylo Diblinho some of you would be all for bidding 40m+ a player with so much potential

Yeah but that’s not far off Kubo’s release clause. Yes someone made the reasonable point that a release clause needs to be paid fully upfront but realistically we could negotiate to spread the 52 million pounds (60 million euros) out like a normal contract given no one else appears to be interested in him and the fact they would be able to add the money to their books immediately for accounting purposes and hence use it to sign a replacement for Kubo.

Additionally, outside of the mega rich clubs, how often are releases clauses actually activated in the traditional sense whereby the full amount is paid in one go. Me thinks very rarely. I imagine that this kind of deal gets done frequently.

Release clauses are mandatory in Spain.

The issue is that Madrid have a sell on for a high % so theres no deal under the release clause.

Kubo OR Dibling at the same price is an interesting decision to make.

£50mil for either is poor negotiation.

At these fees we need to try and flog one or two players lol

I actually think the price we are at now is pretty fair. Kubo is 50m+. Like PL experience comes at a premium.

We look totally stupid bidding 27m or whatever originally though. Well done Hammond.

Hammond seems terrible negotiating.

Offer them Harrrion Armstrong on loan to sweeten the deal..we know he will go somewhere.

Id rather give them Iroegbunam as part of the deal.

Though Armstrong would be able to learn alot from their manager i think.

Are there no other clubs banging on Southampton’s door? If no why given this kid is supposed to be something special 🤔

Because he's high risk, similar to Gordon when Newcastle bought him but more technical.

He's a year younger too and Southampton were really poor. Argument is with better players around him and more experience he'll become amazing.

Elite clubs don't want to take the risk as they can afford to buy the finished article. They want someone like us to take it.

Whoever is doing our negotiating clearly doesn't have the clout to up the bid.
I can't imagine Moyes is involved - he just wants the player.
I also think Dibling wants to join us if we can agree a fee.
So - for the sake of £2-3m we should pay it if that's who Moyes wants.
Makes us look like amateurs really.
Like hearing Fulham wanted to gazump us over KDH. Fulham ffs. After mugging us off with Tete too. Embarrassing really.

Fans need to get over this whole ‘embrassing’ thing. United spent all summer claiming they weren’t going to pay over a certain amount for Mbuemo only to then relent and pay a higher amount. Liverpool got knocked back multiple times by Leverkusen before paying a record British transfer fee. They’re currently being had off by Newcastle but will end up probably paying close to 150 mill to get the player.

No one cares. It’s not ‘embarssing’ it’s just the world of negotiation. I don’t think a single fab of any other club could care less if we pay 40 mill for Dibling or 50 mill.

What’s embarassing is not winning anything for 30 years and pretending we still have any reputation to uphold whatsoever. This is the game you have to play to get good players in.

Saw some people mention that we were playing hard ball with Branthwaite but don't really see the comparisons. Feels like Southampton are constantly changing the goalposts with the fee and are playing games. We were adamant from the off that Branthwaite wasn't leaving.

No matter how mad things have gone in football, the fee is at or near to exceeding our all-time transfer record if reports are correct. For a 19 year old. It's a hell of a gamble. Personally I don't think we can justify it. We have to have other irons in the fire if it doesn't come off.
