Dibling is one of the hottest prospects in the country. And with that comes an inflated market thats going to cost a steep fee.

Im sure we had others circled in Europe that may have been higher on a priority list mainly because of the likely cheaper transfer. I don't think thats necessarily a reflection on Dibling, but more how his likely fee might affect other deals.

If you have to spend 40+ million for the highest ranked option, but have another option for 20 million, for a player slightly worse but close to your same evaluation the math is what it is.

All to say this coming late has an explanation and doesn't surprise me.

I do agree to an extent - it just feels like the standard shambles though

Fofana isn’t all that either yanno. Fofana only scored 5 goals last year in a way weaker league, and a better team than what Dibling did. Plus he’s still very raw too, both are a gamble.

300 minutes more. My points still stands, Fofana isn’t all that. He was in a crap league, in a better team. People in here seem to think he’s this superstar player and he’s not. He’s a good player with bags of potential, but so is Dibbling.

Yeah, but from what I've seen, Fofana doesn't drift through games, imo Dibbers needs to put a lot more work into his game before starting for us than Fofana does. Just watch our penultimate game again, but just watch Dibling, on the few occasions that he moved into space his team mates were reluctant to play the ball to him for some reason, and pretty much the only time he pushed himself was for a frustrated late lunge at Ndiaye in the first half. Oh, and he wasn't really playing on the wing at all. In our position, this would be a stupid gamble, unless this is in addition to all the other positions that we need to fill, but I don't know where such a large budget will come from.

You don’t know that at all. Fofana is still a young lad coming from a different league, there’s every chance he could take longer than Dibbling. Plus your basing your opinion on a single game, plenty of Southampton fans who know a hell of a lot more about him than anyone on here all say he’s a very talented player.
 
Right now Everton cannot buy ready made high end product players so we gamble on young players with patchy stats but observable upside. In their own way both Dibling and Fofana fit that profile. Dibling has PL minutes in a bad team. Fofana gained his experience in a better team in an inferior league but has European experience and more ‘senior’ minutes. Differences in productivity are hard to evaluate given the different experience. In a sane world neither would be in the £35/40m range but they are. IF we ever pay up and strike a deal for one or both we can then find out if they are worth it. I’d like to have that opportunity so get a wiggle on Everton!
