Transfer Rumour Tyler Dibling

I think the problem is that you're relying on them all to have their best or very good seasons and we have seen in pre-season so far that they've played on the pitch together and our creativity and ability to score has been pretty naff. We definitely need to add.

They haven't really played on the pitch together, they've spent half their time in a 3-5-2 with McNeil at wing back.

I do have to say, I get the 3-5-2 in the first match of the tour, he had no options. To roll it out in the second match is just daft. We should never be playing that, the first half of these matches we should be putting our best foot forward.

Oh we definitely need to add
I just don't think it's far fetched to suggest they'll improve their goalscoring by 50% if they play more. Only Ndiaye played more than half the minutes

If they replicate what they did last season with more minutes factored in, they will. Same minutes, probably not

Even if they did, it's still not enough from your attack.

Who else in this team is making up the difference if that 4 have their best seasons and score 35?

Mid table Fulham/Palace are in the 50s+ GF

Then you get to Brentford, Brighton etc who are higher 60s.

Indeed - how many open goals from pre-season...

Not that it matters, mind.

Yea we definitely need more
We were the lowest scoring non relegated team last season
Hopefully a new RW helps that
I only see McNeil as a squad player myself, just think he's not versatile enough, and Barry might prove an upgrade too

20 matches is more than half a season, I don't think that's form. That's taking the talent you have (even if flawed) and finding a way to play to get the most from them. Counter-attacking football, patterns of play in the final third-things we frankly have not seen since Ancelotti (who I don't think got to 50 goals in his final season).

Look, we're not world beaters and need to improve, and need depth. We don't have a 20 goal scorer in the squad, but I just don't see this as dire a situation as many. Beto with 8 in what amounted to be a half season, Ndiaye, Alcaraz, McNeil-there are 30-35 goals there. These are all guys who are in their primes or are entering their prime. And that's without a single recruit.

Again, we need more numbers (injuries would kill us, frankly) and quality, but we're not getting a proven PL 20 goal scorer in the door. It's just not happening. But if you put that starting 11 out and that you have a young, talented player pushing them...that can be successful.
It wasn't sustained over half a season though so it was form. We scored 14 goals in a 6 game run just after Moyes took over but then only scored 13 in the last 12 games.

How far along is this lad in his development compared to say Anthony Gordon when we sold him for similar figures?

Is he ready to come in and make a difference straight away?

I’m happy to have project players, but for figures in the £30-40m ballpark, we kind of need to be seeing instant returns. I’m not expecting 10+ g/a by any means straight away like.

Close but not quite, yes but no. Maybe.

God I hate it when we're said to be 'preparing' a 2nd bid
It sounds like we are counting out coins and putting them in little plastic bank bags
I always wondered what you had to prepare. Since all the paperwork is the same except the 1 number you can edit....seems you could have that second bid done in about 20 seconds. Maybe you have to wait a couple days to pretend you are thinking about it even though before you bid you already knew you were willing to go higher.

yea it's ridiculous
What they probably mean is 'considering', but that doesn't sound as proactive so instead they murder the language

I'm just cranky because I want signings

Boring I know, but that's not really true. We're not likely to have offered £27m up front and then just change it to £30m up front or whatever. It's quite likely that they'll restructure the entire bid, proposing new up front payments, different clauses and incentives etc. Multi million pound deals do tend to be quite complex to put together in fairness.

Then you have to assess how that fits into the budget and financial projections, how it would affect other bids.

That's where we disagree.

[Edit] Take all 4, take their best ever goalscoring season (so 7 from McNeil rather than his career average of 3 etc) and assume they'll replicate that next season and it's still not that.
McNeil and Alcaraz will be on the bench and depending on how Barry does, Beto maybe as well

Surely if you are a competent organization you have already discussed all of that before even the first bid. You know your max, you've discussed how they might respond, what other terms you can offer to sweeten the deal, examined the financial situation of the selling club...

I dont know a low level deal where someone hasnt already thought about their second offer when crafting the first one. None of it should be a surprise...
