2024/25 David Moyes

Wet paper bag to a gunfight.

I am beginning to despair with all that's going on.

We play a Leeds side on Monday fortnight away and, rather than steadily raising our game to a positive level that would give confidence, all we are hearing is negative vibes, and what we have seen on the pitch so far is risible.
They're all running off the rust and the summer beers. Besides a couple of sides that won trophies last season, has any side made significant signings? Once the ball starts rolling we'll see a flurry of action. We wanted early signings but the world and the transfer market doesn't revolve around us. I doubt we'll get the '9 or 10' new faces talked up, but I reckon overall we'll get the six or seven.

Imagine if Branthwaite hadn't signed a new contract and was behaving like Isak is, Imagine if a big deal had come O'Brien's way, and Tarkowski hadn't recovered as fast as he has. The support had had enough of Doucoure, and the murmurs around Young, and a glut of wasteful loans, we're past that now. The support got what it wanted.

There's an "Elite friendly" against Roma in 9 days. BMD full, crazy expensive hot dogs and lagers, and the first trickles into the new fan zone where pubs and bars will soon pop up. If we were sat in trenches in the Somme I could understand the despair and existentialist angst, but, believe it or not, we aren't sat waiting for the whistle to go 'over the top', we are on the cusp of a season with a lot more to look forward to than a lot of previous summers. Relax, take a breath, have a drink and a smile. Enjoy the ending of summer, and know that all your worry, all your exasperation, doesn't add up to anything in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks 👍

I'll pass on the drink, as I am driving to Dublin soon for Shamrock Rovers v St Joseph's Euro Conf League qualifier (Rovers lead 4-0 from 1st leg).

@Gallaeo

I admire your optimism and I wish I could be as positive regarding Everton. Hopefully the public whingeing is no longer a fact once the season starts.

As regards actual worry, I am certainly more concerned about innocent people around the world that are suffering real trauma.

As Evertonians, we are well accustomed to being let down - it's the hope etc.

That last sentence is pure wisdom.

Very much so - I wonder what he said that made him move from such a club to us. Must have been guaranteed minutes, There is no way he comes to play for Baines and co
They farmed him out to the absolute rock bottom club in La Liga last season who finished 16 points adrift of 19th. Bayern also have at least 2 or 3 senior players capable of playing in his position. Ultimately he was a Bayern II player more than a Bayern player so playing under Baines wouldn't be a massive step-down.

And nobody out there is throwing that PL money his way.

There's no way Moyes is guaranteeing minutes to a 19 year old.

Interesting, nice to get an actual informative assessment- looking at his comments, what would you imagine he thinks he will be doing (playing) this coming season?

Beginning to sound like Dyche, “ taken this group as far as I can “

There must be some undercurrent such as he wants Soucek but the committee isn’t on board.

Whatever it is he is not helping motivate the current group nor helping sell the club to new signings. I’m sure no manager outside the top 6 has all the players they would like.

He needs to do the managers job & motivate the team & get the best out of the players he’s got.

That's the problem - it'd be purely imaginative on my behalf :D

Probably fancies his chances of pushing on though and there's certainly a clearer pathway for a young LB here than at other clubs at the moment given there is only one senior LB. If he can get past Mykolenko, and a Moroccan international is certainly calibre enough on paper to do so, then he's playing first team football in the biggest league in the world.

Even without a promise of minutes it's a good opportunity from a professional point of view as there's a strong likelihood Moyes will have to use him at times whether through injury/suspension or tactical need chasing games. And Moyes Mk1 wasn't the entirely dour safety first manager he has the reputation for being. We played some decent stuff under him.

I will be honest, his quotes made it sound like he thought he was going to play a fair bit - there is nothing coming from our u21's for him to be excited

Ha Ha. I wonder what he thought of Moyes' words last night: "yes, he's one for the future I dont expect to see him getting games anytime soon".

I bet he left that out of his elevator pitch.
Are we talking “Apostolos Velios” levels of “one for the future”?

Felt like we were waiting until he was 28 to see him in the first team as fleeting as it was

Sounds nothing like dyche. Dyche would be loving this because he'd be telling everyone he's the best Everton can get and everyone including Everton fans should be thanking him.
Moyes just sounds pissed off. Despite the nonsense written on here he isnt making it about himself like dyche would.
He just sounds pissed. With just cause. Wether he should be making it as public as he is. Not gona lie im undecided if its good or not. I can see both sides have a point.

In a post on here in 1985 or 1987 can't remember we lost all our warm up games & went on to be Champions !
