Interesting to look back to May when Moyes was saying stuff like this
Maybe the owners have taken him at his word and thought: "Ok, you said it's not all about money, so..."
...yes, who weren't spending anything until the summer. No mate. We had new owners then.

Utterly daft stuff you dredge up from 'the vaults'.

Moyes is experienced enough to know not to go saying stuff that can be interpreted in a way that eventually is used against you.I think it's more a case that the backroom staff can't bring in the players we need or can't do it quick enough.
There's loads of teams who are struggling to meaningfully add to their squads. It feels like we got the European super league, just through the back door. A definite 2 tier system, both in terms of the league's application of psr and also the scab 6's ability to build massive squads while the rest of the clubs fight for scraps.
Wait... Are you... David Moyes?Moyes is experienced enough to know not to go saying stuff that can be interpreted in a way that eventually is used against you.
Back in May he should have just stuck to the message that the squad needed gutting and money had to be spent. But his ego got in the way and he handed TFG mixed messages.
That's not to excuse the 'exceptional operators' unexceptional performance, btw . But Moyes does make it easy for owners not to seriously spend cash.
I am wondering if the new lot and him are on the same page?
He has been around long enough to know who will realistically come or not.
Wouldn't be surprised if he has less glamorous names he would want , while the ones upstairs want a few flash names to make there mark and are wasting there time and energy.
As it stands right now we are currently criminally understaffed.
We would need at least 5 or six through the door to even stand still.
The start of the season isnt looking good at the present time.
Expect to see a few less high profile players coming through the doors in the coming weeks.
This club just sucks the life out of you.
I don't really agree. Is there any top flight manager who would be happy going on a pre season tour with about 14 fit senior outfield players?I hoped to have a little optimism going into this season, it's draining.
His comments around desperation, being near the bottom the last 5 years, not having the players to compete etc arent helpful, and self serving. They only help himself.
We shouldn't be surprised - it's who he is, and what he does ahead of a new season. He replaced Alex Ferguson at Man Utd, who'd just pissed the league an he did it there. He joined Sunderland who'd had 10+ years in the Prem an declared before a ball was kicked that it would be a miracle if he kept them up. We could have signed 10 players, and he'd be downplaying expectations - he'd be saying will take time for so many to gel, and dialling up his reservations about adapting to a new stadium etc.
I felt worst prior the start of the last 2 seasons. But despite the problems we had, much worse than now and unable to spend, we were comfortable - 22 and 23 points clear. We've lost Calvert-Lewin an Doucoure who 9/10 people on this forum did nothing but slate to Barry and Alcaraz. I've no doubt we'll sign better than Lindstrom an Harrison. That considered, we shouldn't be in trouble this season and we'll surely spend.

He expected to be backed, and he needed to be backed because we don't have enough players. I'm glad we're hearing common sense from the manager rather than the CEO telling us everything is on track. We all can see what's going on - we don't need the club to tell us we are wrong and everything is fine every summer.

But that's exactly what you love as well, seeing as that was Dyches only requisite last season and we now have an even weaker squad. Not a chance. These are the situations Moyes enjoys: being able to build a case that survival is the objective.
He loves this. He's a pig inright now.
I think Moyes hasn't downplayed expectations as such just yet. He's been quoted on a few occasions saying that we should be aiming to crack into Europe. The comments are much clearer digs at the recruitment team to get deals done rather than self-preservation, for me.
That said, I'd be a liar if I said that I'm not just a little worried that him putting all this stuff out there might not be helping the situation.
We will get deals done, just a shame we habitually have to write off August.
