Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

He's being priced out of a move to about 99% of clubs because they clearly want to keep him, which is fair enough. The market is still utterly bonkers though and stuff like this is part of the reason.

Also - the fee we're asking for Branthwaite is more than reasonable either way. Como's fee for Diao really isn't.
Best will in the world, mate, I can imagine the posters on Grandio Oldio Teamio saying the exact opposite thing.

Footy maths never works. Players are worth what teams are willing to pay. I won’t disagree that the market is crazy these days, but Como are minted and have no need to sell. We’re almost certainly perceived to be desperate so this is the inevitable outcome. Swerve him and onto the next one.

'We need to replace Jack Harrison' and 'we've needed a quality RW at the club for donkeys' are two different statements - agree?
They're different statements in that they use different words, but the meaning is ultimately exactly the same. We need to replace Jack Harrison because he's the bloke who was most recently playing right wing for us. His name is irrelevant, nobody means we need to replace him because he was so good, they mean we need to replace him because he played loads of games for us over the last 2 years and he's gone but nobody else has come into take his place. Seriously like, this is properly simple stuff that people are struggling with.

Aye, but we couldn't do this in January, so how does that help then? Unless they were absolutely 100% sure then, that the women's team was definitely getting sold.
We controlled both assets - they got to choose when to do it. They’ve only sold it to themselves for now but still counts for PSR.

They likely chose to do it after the end of the last financial year as it now counts positively for PSR this year, next year and the year after.

They also could have sold Goodison to a related company if they wanted to. PSR is a joke.

You can 'replace' Jack Harrison with young Justin Clarke for all I care - but it still doesn't address the need to get a quality wide forward like Fofana or Kubo through the door if we ever truly want to kick on finally.....
So this quote of mine from earlier is a reasonable take then, yes? Clarke is already here to 'replace' Harrison's contribution for next season. The real issue is we obviously don't want to be handing Clarke 20-odd appearances like Harrison got last season either way, so the need for a new quality wide forward is pretty paramount for me before 1st September..

24/25 - 4 goals / 8 assists in 21 games
23/24 - 3 goals / 6 assists in 35 games
22/23 - 7 goals / 3 assists in 36 games

I'd say those are decent number for a £15m player considering most of that time was playing under Sean Dyche.

Not when the whole team is built around him and he takes every set piece.

He had one good half season under dyches first 6 months here. After that hes been lacking imo.

Agree PSR is a joke but the January transfer window ended not much more than a month after they officially took over.

I highly doubt selling the women's team was high on their list of priorities at that point. Even if they thought they could spend in January and sell the women's team before the PSR period ended, they'd have been FUBAR'd if the loophole was closed off before they got chance 👍

Anyway, hopefully some more players coming in soon 👍

I bet you’re the type of person that would tell someone cooking your dinner that it tastes crap … even thought it’s still in the process of being cooked ..

The window is not over yet dave wait until the end before judging it
Doesnt look like Moyes agrees with you does it?

To be fair to Thelwell, at least he went for players who wanted to come though, like Kudus an Gnonto who were going on strike to force the move. Kudus would have come on loan if Man Utd hadn't took Antony. We were always just hoping the club would let them go for less than what we could offer, or players would leave - like Calvert-Lewin when we wanted Minteh.

If we could afford £30m in January, or Calvert-Lewin went to Newcastle - Minteh would be an Everton player an the right hand side would be sorted.

The only one we really tried for, who jibbed us an didn't want to come was Elanga, because of Dyche.

It's why I've been like a stuck record saying if it was my club, I'd have kept Thelwell/Purdy an give them a go with money. I worry TFG have tried to do too much, too soon.
Your post has also alluded to the players which were scouted under Thelwell/Purdy being good players which have gone elsewhere. Both Kudus and Minteh have demonstrated that they are capable of performing in the Premier League, with both having been identified under the previous regime. In my view the problem was not so much with scouting, but with poor spending making these players unaffordable. I should also say that I agree with your point on keeping Thelwell, who deserved a chance to spend some money after working on a shoestring budget for as long as he did.
