Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Like with Thelwell we’re linked with the best players in our price bracket but none are keen to join. Hopefully a few open minded can see past our failures in the last 5-6 seasons and the project stadium & investment to see we can go places.

To be fair to Thelwell, at least he went for players who wanted to come though, like Kudus an Gnonto who were going on strike to force the move. Kudus would have come on loan if Man Utd hadn't took Antony. We were always just hoping the club would let them go for less than what we could offer, or players would leave - like Calvert-Lewin when we wanted Minteh.

If we could afford £30m in January, or Calvert-Lewin went to Newcastle - Minteh would be an Everton player an the right hand side would be sorted.

The only one we really tried for, who jibbed us an didn't want to come was Elanga, because of Dyche.

It's why I've been like a stuck record saying if it was my club, I'd have kept Thelwell/Purdy an give them a go with money. I worry TFG have tried to do too much, too soon.

Is it better to have a perhaps half hearted, but much better player here using us as a stepping stone in August (a Fofana), or someone down the list in July who is over the moon to be here (Maybe Fellows)?
Given the kip of our squad I would like both, but if I had to choose I would take the better player all day long. Assuming - I know, I know - the talent shines through and he develops here as he should, we get one or two years of him making our team better and then enough profit at the end of that to replace him and more. We also get a case study on our books for the next player who is theoretically too good for us, to show how much the move benefits all parties.

I still say Harrison Armstrong could do a good job for us once settled with another midfielder added Then we need a winger as Dwight MAcNeil is running with lead in his boots he may recover to last seasons form , but we cant take that chance so 2-3 new editions is all we need the way we are struggling to get players in - DM stated he was going to look in the championship ?

McNeil was available in the last game, but came off the bench while Harrison started.

Yes? The guy who'd only recently come back from a bad knee injury? Who was only used sparingly in all games after he came back?

But the idea was always to replace these players wasn’t it? Like I’m sure it doesn’t need explaining that, when people said they wanted Doucoure and Harrison out they meant actually bring in upgrades on them? Not that we should or could afford to literally let them walk out and bring in nobody
Its still preseason, it's not an ideal timeline for bedding in players but you act like the window has closed.

I also thought Thelwell should have been given a chance... I am disappointed he wasn't

Alternate view, he may not have a direct line to TFG and need to go through the hierarchy.

This may be Moyes way of saying we need to start doing deals NOW with the funding you've provided. Hoping that Friedkin will get on the blower to Kinnear and say ok get several deals over the line even if it takes that bit extra

True, I said in the Friedkin thread a few days back that Gasperini said Roma were behind but that he was in contact with the owners and they were supportive. It seemed things kick started for them soon after.

Gasperini didn't sound half as exasperated as Moyes did either. It would be concerning if Moyes didn't have the same access to Friedkin, or if Friedkin wasn't taking the same degree of interest.

There might actually be an occasion or two where an owners intervention might help with a transfer. The one thing TFG won't like is money being made available and not spent.

My thoughts exactly .
Too much change too soon.
Poorly planned handover.
Threw the baby out with the bath water.

Always try an not to panic until first whistle on the opening fixture.

I mean outside of Arsenal, them lot and Chelsea, who for obvious reasons can be allowed to spend whatever. Has any team had a transfer window they are truly happy with so far? Will sound silly but in reality outside of those 3 teams, the rest have had similar run of it as we have. Missed targets, player exodus or transfer sagas.

One thing I will say is that I agree with others, in that the profile of some of the players we have gone for is too high for where we are now. Again, sounds silly and it’s been said before, if we are struggling to convince the likes of Fofana and Kubo, why aren’t we going for the next best players coming through? Finding our own similar ilk players. Maybe still early days in terms of the new recruitment team building a process?

Though one thing we’ve massively lacked is competition for places within the squad, which I think is under valued. For a long time we’ve operated on a “you’ll do we’ve not got better” system and it’s just spreads mediocrity. The better players who aren’t challenged for their position, then want to find that new challenge elsewhere. Those who aren’t good enough don’t have that push, and play week in week out in the safety they’re earning a good wage and being rewarded for “doing their job”.

I expected us to go for quantity over quality, in the overall position we’re in right now. Not saying the players we get in shouldn’t be pushing us forward, but feel we’re wasting a lot of time trying to convince players where we really need to have a strong, core squad first.

I think players are rejecting us because we are aiming for very good players who want to join bigger clubs that are playing in Europe if we were targeting average players I dare say we’d have plenty in now.

I’d rather aim high and get quality in later than aim low and get average in sooner - Frustrating as it is.

Not at the end of thr thread yet so you may have had other replies. Players will have the biggest say in their future but agents have to play a big part in directing their clients and possibly away from clubs that would be ideal for them even without my blue tinted specs on. In years gibe by we could throw them a few extra quid but we arnt likeky to do that anymore I would imagine. Good or bad we sat our limits, hence some hurdles that will not ne overcome easily, if at all.

We'll see in thd coming days whether it will be a balance between waiting for some targets or moving on from any stalled deals to other targets.
