2024/25 David Moyes

I don't agree mate. Moyes is just a realist and says things as he finds them. The Sunderland fans took great offense and still whinge about the fact that he said they were in a relegation battle just two game into a season. But guess what, they WERE in a relegation battle, he wasn't bullshitting!

He's also recently been quoted as saying European qualification should be the target for Everton next season, as opposed to the five year plans to finish above Brighton and Brentford that are so popular on here. That's not talking the club down at all. It's kind of bigging the club up from someone that knows that it doesn't take a five year plan to compete for a European place.

Even when he was here last time and we'd finished the previous season 6th or 5th...or 4th....he'd start every season with the battle cry that a club like Everton needed to target 40 points.

It's rewriting history to deny he's always talked us down.

For him success for us is top half. Just that.

IMO we've outgrown a manager like Moyes. And I doubt he'll be here too much longer tbh. This has never felt like it'd be a long standing permanent appointment.
Top half and on an upwards trajectory is not just success for him mate, it is success for all of us all after the last 5 years. This is probably his last management job and i think he regrets never winning anything with us and wants to do so before he retires.

I dont see it that way.

My view is that the PL is terrible in terms of quality. There's 2 maybe 3 out of our range but that's it.

Europe should be a realistic objective. Even this season.

I can't deny that nonsense about 40 points. But I don't think you can say he's currently talking the club down when he's openly rejecting the five year plan to finish 10th and talking about qualifying for Europe next season.

I agree and it can be a realistic objective as long as he is given the tools to achieve it which is why he is going on about it all the time. The squad he currently has would be closer to the bottom half than the top.

Moyes wants Everton to move forward and has been clear about that from day 1. He almost sounded embarassed at how bad we had been before he took over. Then he clearly improved us in the second half of last season.

Unfortunately to be able to move forward, he needs to be given an actual squad to choose from like all other top flight managers. At the minute, we have one of the smallest squads ever in premier league history and his job is being made extremely difficult.

The blame does not lie with Moyes, it lies with the club and the recruitment team. They knew exactly how many players we needed with the amount of expiring contracts. So they don't get any excuses from me about being new to the club. They knew the job before they took up their roles so now is the time to start signing good players. If they can't sign the players we need, then bring in a new recruitment team or a single recruitment head to deal with things.

Hels not talking about it as an expectation. He's talking about it as ambition.

Big difference in outlook and intent.

People dont seem to have interpreted his words that way but it's there. There's always get out clause with Moyes.

Matty once we have signed some players who improve our starting 11 people will be happy, we haven’t done that yet.

So instead of asking people to believe in the tooth fairy question the club

Will they be happy?

Some people are never happy. Just went onto the newly signed player thread and half of it is moaning about the club interview.
